     This is mainly for us old folks....back in the 50's, into the 60's, many local markets had their own music programs, a'la BANDSTAND, which itself started as a local show.

     In Cleveland we had THE BIG 5 SHOW, renamed UPBEAT after it went into national syndication....

When I was living in Minneapolis back in '80-'81, I remember seeing the Blue Jean Network (which was actually from Chicago I guess).  I'm pretty sure that was my first introduction to music videos.

[The Burgomaster]

Not really a music show, but when I was a kid there was a program on Sunday mornings in Massachusetts called "Community Auditions."  It was sort of like a cheesy, local version of "America's Got Talent."  Sarah Silverman actually got her start on that show.  Anyway, I really hated the show . . . they'd have everything from singing to tap dancing to baton twirling . . . just about anything.  It was almost like watching a telethon without the money-raising part.  Here's a taste of it:
