Recently, I rented episodes of this HBO show, which gave Sacha Baron Cohen his stepping stone to Hollywood.
This show is of course where he premiered his character of Borat, and that's certainly the main reason to watch any episodes. Borat's a much more effective character when you only see him once in a while, as opposed to putting him in an entire movie. Mind you, I didn't hate the Borat movie, it's certainly better than all those movies based on SNL characters (except Wayne's World) . But it did drag in a few spots.
The only two things that bug me about "Da Ali G Show"...
- Too much focus on Ali G, Cohen's least amusing character, IMO.
- Cohen seems to like picking on Southerners a lot with all his characters, and that gets a little old after a while. (There's just as much intolerance and homophobia here up North, Sacha
)
