I had a similar experience with a fiend called "corner of house" I'm just mowing the lawn, minding my own business, and all of a sudden WHAMO! right in the forehead

‎12:30 Last night, Prankster(s) made some noise. Banging on one of my downspouts, I assume. First time in years, I didn't jump out of my skin, grab my machete & phone, & hunch in a corner 'til the cops showed up. Just figured it for seasonal mischief & went back to watching a crappy rerun of SNL.
