If you are in the mood for a totally nondescript jaws rip off Dr lester has your prescription right here.  There is nothing remarkable about this movie.  not only is it just jaws on a mountain to the note,  there are no cute girls, nudity, explosions or even embarassing mistakes or particularly bad acting.  I don't have to time for moviesl ike this, but if you do have at it.  Made for tv.

I thought it was decent enough. Good acting, a little suspense plus I'm a sucker for snow setting. Makes for an ok watch I'd say.

a very similar but better one is "ski lift to death" starring Don johnson

I saw this one when it originally aired and remember it as a rather OK standard tame mid-70s made-for-TV horror movie, with a good smattering of aging stars like Yvette Mimieux, Bo Svenson, Clint Walker, and Sylvia Sidney. Lots and lots of "Monster Cam" POV shots with accompanying monster heavy breathing - which I'm sure saved rent them on the fluffy white monster suit, which is seen briefly toward the end.

Written by Joseph Stefano (PSYCHO, The Outer Limits)!

It's included on one of my 50 movie packs (which one, I dunno), but I haven't watched it again yet.

Raffine:

I have this in a 50 movie pack, too (in fact, I think it's in TWO 50 movie packs).  It's typical TV movie fare . . . with the added bonus of Bo Svenson.

it just had every element of jaws:  town big wigs don't want to scare away the tourists so they deny the problem,  "get to know the doomed people"  time before tragedy,  shooting of some other creature,  in this case a bear not a shark,  to show the town everythings okay when the principles know it's not the right one.  then the big reveal which here was a pretty funny scene at the school snow queen festival rehearsal!

was bo svenson the big ski champ guy?  he was good.

some other good ski obscurities:  snowballin'   sunyboy and sugarbaby aka she's 18 and ready

Yep, several times someone here has mentioned a movie that sounded just like my cup of tea, and I'll discover it's included in one of those packs.

I remember seeing this as a kid when it aired and never again. The so called snowbeast is only seen for a split second(s) at the end.iirc wasn't it killed with a ski pole?I'd be curious to watch it again.

I like this movie because I saw it as a kid on TV and that changes my whole perception of it.  Then I got it in a 4 movie pack and got to relive my childhood memories.  I thought it had pretty good suspense, good characters and certainly enough cheesy '70s melodrama to almost qualify it as an Irwin Allen production.  The monster scenes were pretty well done, probably best they didn't show much of it.

You know, now that you've told me not to watch this film, I probably will.  I was warned several times about other flicks, and it just turns out that way.

I love Snowbeast.  Sure it isn't anything more than Jaws in the mountains, but it works.  Not much happens over the course of the movie, yet I felt very drawn in by it.  I can't explain it, but I thought it was kind of atmospheric.

I've watched this one on TV when it first aired and have it in a DVD collection. I like it, for a made for TV creature feature it's pretty good, good story, decent acting and the special effects are okay. All in all a good film to watch if you have it or can get it at a reasonable (cheap) price. Back in the 70's there were a number of made for TV sci-fi/horror movies that were like this one, good but not great. Other than Darren McGavin in "The Night Stalker" and "The Night Strangler", the only other titles I remember are "Moon of the Wolf" with Bradford Dillman and David Jansen and "Gargoyles" with Cornell Wilde, but the movies covered everything from demons and witchcraft to alien abductions and invasions. In many instances they were better than what was at the local theater.

Cult Movie Mania

Looking forward to seeing this.  It's a common PD title among horror DVD compilations.  I saw Shriek of the Mutilated not too long ago, which seems to be in the same vein.

check out maneaters are loose!  also made for tv from 1978 and also a note for note retelling of Jaws.
If you liked snowbeast you'll probably like it as it's exactly the same.

I also own this TV flick on DVD and I actually rather enjoy it although it's hardly a great monster movie. They build the plot up reasonably well with the escalating attacks and red-eyed 'Yeti-vision' shots. However when the beast attacks the Winter Fair the staging of the crowd panic scenes is farcical but they do manage to get the point of the scene across well enough. The one truly effective scene is the discovery of the beast's personal abattoir in the isolated hut.
I do like the ending where the eponymous beast is finally downed with a single blow from a ski stick having brushed off multiple hits from high-impact hunting rifles!  :bouncegiggle:
