I think I am totally on my own when I say that I dislike The Shining, District 9 and Invictus 😳

I dislike The Shining (1980).  But I had made the mistake of reading the book first.

Donnie Darko. Now, I can't say "EVERYONE" likes it, but in my core group of friends and co-workers, they LOVE this thing.

I've watched a few times and I just don't dig it.

That makes two of us, Happy.

I made exactly the same mistake.

I loved THE SHINING as a kid, it scared me like few other movies did. I rewatched it not long ago and honestly I thought it was quite bland and boring. It's like 30 minutes longer than it should be, and while Jack Nicholson does a great job, it doesn't really look like he's a sane man going crazy - he pretty much starts being a weirdo, and then goes into super hamfist mode.
The kid is annoying and the finger thing it's beyond stupid. Not to mention, I feel like the powers he has (which, if I'm not mistaken, is the actual title of the movie) never really pay off in the whole plot. You can pretty much remove that particular thing and the movie won't change at all.

I don't think it's a bad film, but it's not something I would watch again willingly, unless it's to share it with someone else.

I wrote a review of it for this site.

Avatar.

I think that is reactionary.  I felt the same way.  It could be worse, it could be some star wars sh!t.
If you want to view paradise . . . simply look around and view it!

It's like Matrix. You like it thanks to the novelty, and then it starts wearing out.
