After finally finishing up the trilogy, I'm curious as to which film people thought was the best.  All have something to recommend them, and all are a little but different in tone.

Personally, I liked II the best, and I suspect most people will vote that way.  Choosing between ED & AOD was a lot tougher, but I ultimately went with AOD because I prefer the comic wackiness.  I always thought the original was an above-average low-budget horror film, but nothing astounding.

What about you?

My vote - Evil Dead, Evil Dead II, Army of Darkness

IMO It didn't get scarier, it became funny ...

ED2 is a vast improvement over ED, cinematically.  Shows a lot more polish and style.  AD is, well, it's AD.  Best seen in a theatre, IMO.  OTOH if you don't like humor mixed with your horror, as some don't, then I'd say. .

What are you doing watching the Evil Dead movies?

You talkin' to me?  If so, I watch all kinds of movies, and I find the series quite entertaining.  I even find ED II to qualify as a "weird" movie, though just barely, due to the surreal "cabin fever" stretch starting with the dancing corpse and ending with the laughing stag's head.

I'm surprised to see a couple of people picking AOD as their favorite... but that's why I did the poll, I guess.  The movies are so different that each person can have a different favorite.

Evil Dead was a phenomenal use of a low budget. The low budget actually helped its atmosphere; the jerky stop motion made it more creepy and the food items used to simulate gore made it more putrid cos it still sorta looked like food.  ED 2 was ED on a bigger budget but Ash's character was more developed. AD was one of the best horror-comedies ever made, that's inspired a whole lot of others and still does.
With that in mind I like a three the same for different reasons. Also, in all three, those camera angles and direction are really some revolutionary stuff.

I voted for Evil Dead 2, Evil Dead, and then Army of Darkness.

I like all of them, but part 2 is my favorite and I like the first one for how seriously disturbing it is.
Army of Darkness was good, but the comedy was a bit over the top for me.

I voted Army of Darkness, Evil Dead 2, Evil Dead. That's because I like the comedy/horror and polished looks that came with the sequels more.

I voted Evil Dead, Evil Dead 2 and Army Of Darkness. I'm not too fond of humour in horror films.

I selected Evil Dead II, Army of Darkness, then Evil Dead, mainly because that's the order in which I watched them. I knew there was an Evil Dead, but the local Blockbuster never seemed to have it available, so I took Evil Dead II. I found it managed to be creepy and funny at the same time, I especially liked the ending. I remember thinking a sequel had definite possibilities. Army of Darkness, for me at least, is more comedy than horror and it's really enjoyable from that standpoint. I found Evil Dead, when I finally watched it to be a very effective low budget horror story. My order of preference is just arbitrary, these three films, individually or collectively are very good.

I picked ED, ED2 and AOD because I like the pure low budget horror of ED the best.

Loved the first, loved the second even though it's a more comedic re-hash of the first, absolutely hate Army Of Darkness. I know some people on here may find that amazing, but I hate to see a good horror series tarnished by slapstick and self indulgence.

I went with AOD, EDII, ED.

There's a couple of gags in AOD that I absolutely love ! :teddyr:
