Is it possible for you to get bored with horrors and slashers? Because I am getting really bored after watching a dozen. They're all the same. For B-movies I prefer dramas.

Horror is a sadly predictable genre, so when I find something with a neat twist I like - THE RING, JEEPERS CREEPERS, MIRRORS, or even the first SAW movie - it is always a pleasant surprise.  But I watch the cheap, knock-off slasher movies anyway.  Where else can you see shallow but attractive actresses get naked and dead - usually in that order?

I have never, ever enjoyed "slashers" as a genre - I don't know really what you mean by "horrors" - I prefer Fantastic Cinema as a meaningless genre name - Look, really, not to go all "old school" on you, but you can find a lot of enjoyment in the films that the modern film makers watched in order to make their own - Seek out the silents, like Nosferatu or The Golem or Hunchback of Notre Dame, and then see what the "modern" people (1950s') did with them -- Hammer Studios, "The Innocents", "Village of The Damned", etc. etc. - No, Virginia, if you bother to seek, the "horrors" will never let you down . . .

I have no idea what this means.

I can see what you're saying. Horror is, for the most part, one of the most conservative genres out there. The conventions are tried and true, and it is so very rare for a horror film to put itself out there.

Part of it is the nature of the business. Anybody, and I do mean anybody, can make a horror movie and expect to make back most of their budget. Especially if they follow a paint-by-numbers formula. It's a low-budget gambit.

However! The same low-budget nature of horror allows a certain leniency. Every once in a while, a truly original film is made; something that people can look at for years and just admire the craziness of it all.

I live for that rare film. They're a rare grace that nobody else but people like us rhapsodize about.

98% of everything is crap. But that other 2%? That's something to pay attention to.
Every dead body that is not exterminated becomes one of them. It gets up and kills. The people it kills, get up and kill.

The problem is not the genre, . . . it 's Hollywood or to be more exact New York were the producers are. Take a peek in the asian or scandinavien market and You will learn how entertaining horror can be. In the states the rule is: Hey, Frieday the 13. sold well, let us make Frieday the 14., 15., 16., . . . etc. The producers are too chicken to employ realy creativ wrighters, they allways want to stick to the prooven and that's the death of all. Not only in Horror, look at Avatar, haven't You seen this plot 1000 times? As I mentioned, my tip is: Go east young men, go east!

Can somebody tell me the name of the only (perhaps) movie which has two (hooray!) instead of one final girl? I know it was fairly recent - 2005 or later and the monster was some kind of a lizard that was actually from outer space. As far as I remember the only survivors are two girls - a brunette (the main character) and a blonde. For the most part it was a typical, predictable movie, but I liked the end because I thought that the blonde won't make it to the end as it usually happens, but she did. I like every ending that's different than the typical, over-used final girl who killed the killer/monster after it killed everybody else. It's so boring, it's being recycled all over and over and over and over again! :teddyr: I didn't like the typical murders on 'Sleepaway Camp', but at least the final girl was the killer herself so it is like a fresh air. But for the most part, you don't have to watch the movie - you know what's gonna happen - the killer/monster will kill everyone (even the toughest guys), but the innocent, almost heavenly female lead will save the day. As I already said - boooring!

I love horror.  It may be predictable, but what genre isn't?  I can tell you exactly how any drama is going to end after watching the first 5 minutes.  The main character will go through various difficulties and eventually accomplish whatever they're trying to do.  At least with horror, stuff usually happens during the movie.  Though certainly not always  :teddyr:

"B" movie horror/sci fi/fantasy type films are generally made by people who are interested in making a profit, and not necessarily in making a good movie, because of this you must wade through a lot of awful stuff to find the few good to excellent films out there.  It helps to have a sense of humor and to watch the film with no great expectations of cinematic excellence, it also helps if you watch with friends who can help imrovise dialogue, a little beer and Jim Beam can't hurt either.

I've been a Horror fan since I was five years old. Do I get bored with horror? No Sir. For example, I love rewatching movies from my Slasher collection over and over again. I have seen Madman countless times, yet I get all excited every autumn when I pop in Madman for my October/Halloween viewings. I grew up with The Exorcist. It still creeps me out. This year we might get The Exorcist on Blu-ray and I will get it day one of release. It will be such a treat to see this classic in fabulous HD. Over and over again. Yep, that's how much I love horror movies

I'll never get bored with horrors . . . I'm still finding obscure horrors from decades ago, and movies that were barely (or never) released in the U.S.A.  There are hours upon hours of horror movie watching ahead of me.

Nope. Not in the least. I revel in the predictability of 80s slashers - they're like comfort food for me.

Hmm...  I am getting bored with newer Hollywood horror/slasher films.  Other than that, I'm good.  I'm trying to get into some of the Asian horror films, especially the ones that the crappy Hollywood films are based off of.

But I still, and always will, love horror films from the 50s-80s.

I never seem to get bored with horror. If I watch to much, say zombie flicks, then I'll switch to haunted house or psycho killer type movies. To me, there is so much variety of horror out there to watch. When in complete doubt, I go with the original Day of the Dead.

If your bored with horror, maybe you just need some variety.  Ditch the slashers for a while, try some giant monster movies, or some Italian Zombie flicks, or softcore explotation movies with Frankenstein, or low budget vampire movies, or satannic cult flicks, or any of the other huge assortment of themes out there.
