Seems I've been lying to you all.....

I always thought that I was born in what was then Rhodesia [now Zimbabwe] but after looking at my birth certificate last night, it seems I've been lying to you all. The official stamp on that certificate says "Southern Rhodesia". Now:

1. Bulawayo (my place of birth) is in Southern Zimbabwe. No problem.
2. The Rhodesian Federation (comprising what is now Malawi, Zambia and Southern Rhodesia) ended in 1963.
3. The stamp should have been changed to read 'Rhodesia' in 1967 but it wasn't.
4. So, that is either an old stamp or there is a problem somewhere.

I am very, very confused. More than normal.

That is pretty weird. With such an important document you would expect everything to be perfect or close to it.  Do you need to get it changed somehow?

I could, but I was told that in 1980, all the birth, death, tax and other records ~ especially those records that indicated which countries kept Rhodesia going during sanctions ~ got burned in every available furnace (including crematoriums) before Mugabe took over. So, I guess I was born in Southern Rhodesia then. No problem.  :teddyr:

What a strange coincidence  it was for me, Trevor, when I read your post today.  About two hours later I was in an exam room waiting for my doctor to come in, and  I happened to notice there was a map of the world on one of the walls. (that alone is odd, not the usual sort of thing you find on a doctor's waiting room wall). I glanced at the whole map, but focused on AFRICA. I was thinking  :teddyr:of you!

Next you'll find out you've been wearing someone else's underpants all these years.

So... do you really exist?

I actually wonder about that sometimes: I always feel like a UFO dropped me off in Africa in 1967 and that I don't quite belong in the normal scheme of things. I mean, I belong here on this site, but I sometimes feel like an alien.

Thanks, silverlady. Anywhere in Africa south of the Zambezi River is where you'll find me.

I guess it's time we let you know . . . you're really a Romanov.  You, sir, are the last legitimate heir to the throne of Imperial Russia . . . remember who told you when you get rid of that pesky Putin fellow and come into your own.
