it's august in kansas, need i say more? 98 degrees, 85% humidity,heat index of 107 last i looked. and 25 mph winds coming up straight from the depths of hell.

We got hit by a derecho here in Iowa today.

Downed trees and power lines all over the place and lots of people without power.  Cell phone service got interrupted too due to damage to towers.  Some people lost internet service too.

After a storm last night we had some flooding and landslides. It's caused a train crash in which three people have died.

It's better today, thank you.  We didn't have any real damage here.  Our internet service was out for most of the day yesterday as was the phone service.

Internet service came back late yesterday afternoon.  Phone service is still kind of spotty around here.

Was hoping to get to the clinic today to get looked at, but we've had two severe thunderstorms with flooding today.

According to forecast we are expecting rain and storms beginning Thursday and lasting until next week.

Cedar Rapids really got f**ked in this storm the other day.

Cedar Rapids city leaders emphasized they feel the pain of citizens from Monday's derecho, calling it worse than the 2008 flood, and announcing requests for more resources. Alliant Energy added it may take 5-7 days before power is "substantially" restored in the Cedar Rapids area.

City Manager Jeff Pomeranz said the city has requested additional resources from Linn County Emergency Management and the State of Iowa. But he said that it was up to those agencies on whether the National Guard would be deployed, noting that they would need to give specific work for the Guard. Governor Kim Reynolds is scheduled to meet with Cedar Rapids city leaders Friday to discuss those requests for additional resources. Reynolds issued a state disaster declaration Tuesday for areas the derecho hit, freeing up state funding for recovery efforts.

Mayor Brad Hart told KCRG-TV9 that he and Pomeranz initially discussed making a request for the Iowa National Guard on Tuesday but determined that it was not necessary at the time.

"I want to ensure our citizens that we understand the magnitude and impacts of what has occurred in our city and we have a plan, we have responded but there is much, much more to be done," Pomeranz said.

My cousin and her kid came up here for a few days while her husband works on repairs to the house.  If I had stayed in Cedar Rapids I would've had a front row seat to both the flood and now this so I feel bad for the residents down there.
