SciFi movie/People sleeping in a special bed

Anybody know of an older sci fi movie from either 60s, 70s or 80s, (I think it was 70s) and I don't remember much, but the plot was about a family or group of people who lived in a futuristic setting or on a space ship, and the main feature of the plot about them sleeping in some kind of device/bed. I remember there was a very dream-like quality to the film. It was not an action film it was more of a slow scifi drama about people who slept in some kind of futuristic bed/chair of some sort for some distinct purpose. I think (could be wrong about the following) that I remember a part where a younger girl uses the device with out permission.

Sorry it's so vague but I saw this film years ago and have been trying to recover any sign of it to watch it again.

i don't think so,RC,the bed had nothing to do with the raygun  that changed the colors.

Thanks for the try! I appreciate it. But unfortunately this isn't it. The film in question's entire plot was about these scifi pod beds/chairs.

wow, what a coincidence. The film I recall is sooo similar to this, but I don't think it is a match. However, I definitely want to watch this one now though. haha. (world on a wire) Looks very similar, but isn't the same movie. I really appreciate the try though! Will watch this movie now anyways, looks very interesting.

Also something to note about the film I remember now is that the chair/ point of the movie is that the chair is a virtual reality device!
