OK, there's been talk about Dracula movies and I've started some.  But Transylvania's most famous aristocrat isn't the only vampire around,  so let's expand out scope and talk about the best vampire movies in out own individual opinions.

In no actual order here...

Interview with the vampire.  OK, I read the book and have issues with it but I gotta live it for being better than I thought it would be. I mean I was expecting sh-t and got a ham sandwhich instead.  I pleasantly surprised me by not sucking nearly as much as I thought it would. Is that a reason to like a movie? To me I guess it is.

Dance of  the damned.  Yeah,  yeah you  never heard of it. It's  actually kinda like Anne Rice's work in some ways andi'd bet it was influenced by her. Basically a low budget small cast film,  a vampire looking for a victim wanders into a strip club and sees a dancer thinking of suicide. He is attached to "the little pieces of death in her soul" and apparently toy chooses to feed on those who are less likely to have a lot to live for. I can respect that. They spend a night together with him granting her wish to see her son whocs father has denied her access to. She grants his dream of 'a day on the beach" wit a flood light,  blanket and trunks. The two very to know each other. Perhaps too well.

Neither character is a monster. The vampire prefers  to feed on the despondent rather than the happy. In one scene he offers to let the stripper live if she agrees to let him kill a child for blood and she refuses. It's an unprententoius little movie that should have become a cult classic.

The ending is sad and beautiful at once.

Bram Stoker's dracula. One of the closest adaptations to the novel ever done and that alone earns it a spot on my list. The fact it was well made and acted are nice bonuses.

Dracula's daughter. Brings us the idea that some vampires are victims desperately seeking escape from their curse. The titular character made a noble effort to escape her vampiric state. The scene with nher disposing of dracula's body in a fire and even holding a cross while doing it made it clear she did not want to bo what she was turned into. She was the first vampire to be at least as much victim as villain.

Lifeforce. Yeah, Mathilda may was a big part of why I love it,  but there was more to it than that.

FRIGHT NIGHT is probably my favorite vampire movie from the entire decade of the 80's.
Yes, I liked it better than THE LOST BOYS.

Either NOSFERATU (1922) or BLACK SUNDAY (1960).
Even the first 15 minutes of DRACULA (1931) is better than most movies combined.
Supernatural?...perhaps. Baloney?...Perhaps not!" Bela Lugosi-the BLACK CAT (1934)

Lugosi-"No. Dracula-never ends."

Hey  AHD,  if you want to bring up TV vampire movies what'cha think of "I, desire" Aka "Desire the vampire. "?

BTW, the night stalker was a good choice. Karl Kolchak was the uilimatre  evryman.

There was another decent TV movie about a kinda of vampire, a guy rose frommthe dead to scultp a stature of a demon from clay made with human blood to bring the demon to earth.

Edit.

The norliss tapes.  Damn good movie,  could use a remake.  Man,  this  TV movie was above average.

Don't know it, but I'm repelled by the KLIMT art with the harpsichord music at the beginning.

Like THE NORLISS TAPES, THE NIGHT STALKER was produced by DAN CURTIS.  I don't think THE NORLISS TAPES is nearly as good as THE NIGHT STALKER.
