The entire site would be plunged into mourning if I left.

Or else they'd throw a party . . .

How much do you think you'd be missed here?

Me, little.

I don't care. I'll be dead.

If I die and news comes through that I am no longer here, don't mourn me. If you want to remember me, go see a movie, any one.

I won't be around to say "I read the reviews and that movie is rubbish".  :buggedout:

Go see a movie and remember me like that. Just not a re-run of The Shining, please.  :buggedout:

US residents: do you tip well? Do you think we should end tipping altogether?

I tip pretty well but I believe the practice needs to be ended. Employers should pay their employees, not rely on customers to voluntarily do it for them.

I rarely order out for food our eat out. I tip when I do- but I can't recall doing so in years.

I do try to tip well in part because it's a chance to help someone who is probably among the hard-working poor. Unless someone is a real jerkoff I'll tip twenty percent, and go higher if a server has gone the extra mile. The other day I left ten dollars on a twenty-two dollar tab because the lady was so cordial.

I'm in favor of replacing restaurant tipping with a flat service fee per person or per order, maybe even per hour of service that fluctuates with busier hours, days and seasons. I don't understand the logic of tipping as a percent of the bill when it requires the same level of effort to serve regardless of the cost of the meal. Like why should the waitstaff tip differ based on the market price of fish someone orders?  Bad service should be dealt with by management, not punished by guests.

I usually tip 20% when being served, but I don't tip when I order takeout ahead online and pick it up myself from a place where I wouldn't normally be asked for a tip when ordering takeout in person. I hope that's not awful.

i generally tip 20-25%, and always ask the server if they tip out the kitchen staff. if they don't, i go there and tip them myself. and i always tip the bartender separately. having worked every possible position in a food service sitch, i know the whole team is paid poorly( i am excluding chefs, i'm talking about the grunt workers who do the most work) and deserves my recognition.

According to local lore, what's the most haunted place near you?

Although I think it's nonsense on top of nonsense, Bobby Mackey's, a country western club within sight of downtown, has been featured in books and on a lot of silly true ghost type shows.

In Pretoria, this place certainly.

A scary musical called "Hier's Ons Weer" [Here We Are Again or It's Us Again] was even filmed there in the 1950s.

'The Old Villa' just down the street from where I live

Never officially abandoned. The owners moved away (with plans of coming back) in 1971 (they owned several villas in other towns) because of work/business. In 1972 it was used for exterior shots for a movie released in 1973. One year later, the son of the owner moved back in because he was studying in another town and needed a place to live.
No one has lived there since 1976. No idea what happen to the owners, but the building is under monument protection and can't be torn down. It is also too expensive for renovation/restoration. The nearby Hospital across the street is allowed to store old hospital stuff inside the building.

The Old Villa was a hot spot for thrill seeking youths in the 1990s. Lots of tales of this building being haunted. My niece and her friends sneaked in and spend a night there once. They heard whispers, voices, footsteps, knocks and doors slamming, and felt like being watched.
Is it October yet?

The old house I lived in in back of Welch's in Lawton Michigan had some serious poltergiest activity in 2002.

I am close enough to Bachelors Grove cemetery that I should have visited at least once but haven't yet.

I've been to Resurrection Cemetery during the day.  There was a lot of deer. Our car broke down when we came home and my husband blamed Resurrection Mary, but that car broke down all the time before and after we went there so I don't think that was it

Daylight Saving Time:

Keep it as-is?

Permanently ditch Daylight Saving Time?

Permanently ditch Standard Time?

As much as I love my long evenings in winter, I think I'd go for ditching Daylight Saving Time.
