I remember reading that the ending - where Ray Milland yanks his eyes out and they freeze frame on the sockets - was actually different in concept and the script had Milland scream "I can still see!" 

I've heard that story myself.

However if people here say it's worth it, I might just have to finally bite the bullet and see it.
