Twitter is dead

Since Elon took over and slashed the moderation staff, I have been seeing lots of ads for Asian escorts abusing the hashtag system to appear in my feed. Bad actors are taking advantage of the fact that there's no meaningful moderation.

Yesterday, I saw a post on Twitter (in Arabic) that appeared to show child sexual abuse (bar covering the bad part, and it could have been faked.) Reported it and got a response--but the response was unreadable, basically blank. No idea if they removed and blocked the content or not and I'm not about to search for it again.

Today, there's hardcore porn (adult, consensual), unblocked and uncensored, in my feed.

I have no problem with Elon  promoting "free speech": I've seen lots of blatant racist and antisemite accounts pop up, and although it's speech I disagree with, it's still political speech. At some point, however, the content crosses the line to something I don't want to be associated with.

How's this? I report a racist post - one which said "all whites must be deported to Britain" - and I get a message reporting me for racial abuse!

If you report them and they find out somehow, they'll report you, too. They're trying to establish muddy moral equivalence so no one can police anyone.

I also get a scary amount of porno bot accounts liking my posts: when I click to see who liked it, I get messages saying "Bring your huge member over to my page as I am looking for love and much more...." Excuse me but I am of average size and I will probably give you some disease

Well, since AT&T, CNN, Dell, Allstate, DirecTV, HP, Nestle, Coca-Cola, Verizon, General Mills, General Motors, Volkswagen, Wells Fargo, Mars candy, Kellogg, Verizon, Boston Beer, Walmart, Disney, IBM, Microsoft, and pretty much any other company that has money has stopped advertising with them, they gotta fill those add spaces with somethng.

Never had a twitter account, but until this year have always been able to freely browse it, as a non-member

then a few months ago, I suddenly couldn't look at any accounts and just got a big "X" on a white background, telling me to sign up.

but now it seems to either do that big "X", or alternatively I *can* access feeds, but all the posts are jumbled chronologically in the timeline. - like the top post will be from 2021, then a few from 2022, then maybe a recent one about 10 posts down, etc... and if I click on any particular post, I can't see any replies it might have

...still not tempted to sign up :)

I stay on because of a lot of my author friends are on there, and I enjoy chatting with them - and I can bash Trump there without getting gang-tackled by the vast hordes of his followers that have cropped up on my FB feed - but the site's quality had degraded drastically since Elon bought it.
I saw a great meme (I can't share pictures on here anymore or I'd show you) of John Cleese with Elon's photoshopped face, from the famous Monty Python "parrot sketch," holding a bird cage with a dead Twitter logo in it, and the shopkeeper was telling him - "It was alive when you bought it!"
Of course, when I shared said meme on FB, the aforementioned gang-tackling set in!!! LOL

my brief experience with MySpace put me off any 'social media' for life. (and I didn't even fall out with anyone!)

sadly I need to have WhatsApp for work, which I believe is owned by Farcebook
