I too also love ALONE IN THE DARK. Wild flick.

I saw no sense to pick too many bones w/ the inclusions on this list. I mean, it's Wikipedia. To paraphrase the other cop from the end of CXHINATOWN: "Don't worry about it, RCM - it's Wikipedia!"

TOURIST TRAP is the best of that list.
And why it's under "Bad" is beyond me. It's an excellent film.
Not one of these lists has had EATEN ALIVE (1978) listed, by Tobe Hooper. For shame!

Quote from: RCMerchant on February 25, 2025, 10:29:35 AMThe TOOLBOX MURDERS and ALONE IN THE DARK are both fantastic movies and most certainly do not belong on the "Bad" list.
Heck- ALONE IN THE DARK has Jack Palance, Martin Landau, and Donald Pleasance giving stellar performances!
And Cameron Mitchell singing "I Feel Like a Motherless Child" while slurping a lollipop in TOOLBOX is classic.

Holy guacamole! For someone who condemned slashers you sure care a lot  :teddyr:

Nothing about this list is set in stone or anything. It's just another list of many.

We probably need a 100 BEST slashers thread?
Is it October yet?

^ I don't care for the repetition of most of the franchise "slashers". Some of the stand alone films are fine.
For example- the TEXAS CHAINSAW MASSACRE is a classic film; but the sequels are, for the most part, total s**t. Same for HALLOWEEN (1978). And A NIGHTMARE ON ELM STREET (1984).
FRIDAY THE 13th (1980) was NEVER good.
Supernatural?...perhaps. Baloney?...Perhaps not!" Bela Lugosi-the BLACK CAT (1934)

well we all know none of them set out to be high art, or oscar nominees... I think as trashy entertainment you can't do much better than 80s slashers

(although even I think some of them do absolutely suck, of course)

the 80s did have 'proper' horror films as well... I don't think you can say slashers ruined anything.

RCMerchant

^ Of course not! the THING (1982), imho, is one of the best horror films ever made! And I love many 'Bad' movies of the era- just not boring bad.

Quote from: zombie no.one on February 24, 2025, 01:08:28 PMI have a VIPCO release copy which probably means it's cut to shreds.... might have to invest in a newer uncut release. it has some brilliantly awful dialogue

picked up the 88Films release of this (A BLADE IN THE DARK) today... as expected it's longer. 109 mins compared to my VIPCO release's 104 mins.

in one sense I admire VIPCO for introducing me to soooo many bad movies (esp slashers) at budget prices, but on the other hand I curse them for releasing such heavily cut versions
