even though it conforms to many giallo tropes, WHAT HAVE YOU DONE TO SOLANGE? is kind of a unique film. worth a watch even if that genre is not normally your thing, imo

An embarrassingly low number - but I have seen JOHNNY FIRECLOUD!

LAST MAN STANDING puzzles me a bit... I remember it as a very minor Walter Hill and felt at the time that it was made purely due to its mildly Tarantinoesque elements. Perhaps that's why Tarantino likes it!

Although THE THING is unquestionably one of the greatest films of all time and there are some other classics on this list, I can never shake Tarantino's recent annual Top 10 lists, where the #1s are routinely middling (CRAWL, 2019) or abysmal (JENNIFER'S BODY, 2009). The guy sees A LOT of movies, yeah, but that doesn't necessarily mean he's got good taste!  :tongueout:

Also a remake of Yojimbo.

Oh yeah, LMS is YOJIMBO, I suppose/come to think about it. I just found it a little over-familiar and rote (and being another YOJIMBO remake would explain that). Good cast, but didn't impress me.

JOHNNY FIRECLOUD's a weird one. Exploitation movie but w/ the ending of a Shakespearean problem play or a Haneke film or something. Does not deliver the goods that the viewer requires of such fare - yet remains interesting for that tension. I love Ralph Meeker, and David Canary (who spent the rest of his career on TV's "All My Children") really puts it out there as the morally ambivalent Sherriff. (Maybe not Oscar-worthy, but he was clearly takin' it seriously.)
