This cover is amazing!

I'm intrigued. "A Daring Rescue!"

And why are they driving around in that fire truck?

Holy hell! This film is live action? I must find it.

Dude, this looks like some surrealistic weird dream:

Gotta love how the freaked out dog during the closeups keeps barking at the cameraman.

Oddly enough, I recently found myself explaining this very principle of bad movie box art to my daughter. She was going through some of my collection and asking me about the pictures.

You haven't been letting her look at the covers of ALL your movies have you?  Cause I imagine a few of them would raise why more questions than you'd want to answer just now...

Nothing naughty there. The horror covers are the ones I have to be careful with, and she naturally goes looking for those. So I've had to explain the cover of Creepshow to her without talking about death or decay. That's not easy.

Fortunately, she seems to like the Godzilla boxes best. And she gets excited about recognizing Arnold on several different action boxes. That led us to a game of identifying Arnold, Chuck Norris, Clint Eastwood, Steve McQueen, etc. Then we played a game of "how old will I be before you let me watch it" with a bunch of movies. Her idea. She's definitely my daughter.

Monster Jungle X-Ray

I saw this cover while looking around, and it is wretched. Bad Karma (1991)

The tagline is quite disturbing.

yet, the cover looks like the monster is huge, but the fact is it is a metal pupet
yeah no.

I like that monster's face, it looks so cartoonishly sinister.

Yes I've always been quite fond of that creature, what is it a vegetable from Venus?

More or less, it's a giant intelligent fungus.  Personally, IT CONQUERED THE WORLD is one of my favorite films.

Dude, this looks like some surrealistic weird dream:

Ozzymandias speaks: I watched this at work on a computer that isn't hooked up to speakers. I imagined (for fun) maybe some music behind it like the themes from The Double Deckers or the Banana Splits. Then I noticed the kids were singing, so I thought "I'll watch this and see what the music is like. I watched it at home and discovered THERE IS NO MUSIC - only that droning siren. ARGH! That makes it a sureal dream for sure. Then the kids sing and you can't understand it (or I couldn't).

I think this was film MOS with the sound added later.

Ozzymandias has spoken!!!

Here's a few covers that are pretty weak:

(Movie's as bad as the cover)

(Not the worst zombie movie I've seen, but certainly a crap cover)

What exactly is wrong with Aqua Teen Hunger Force's movie cover?  It's a truly excellent painting by a master of the form, Boris Vallejo.  It just looks silly because they're characters that should never be done realistically - but that's the whole point...  Or was that you being ironic?  I can't tell..

Clearly it's not the craftsmanship or technique of the work (being an artist myself I recognize talent), but the subject matter in general. Nothing depicted on the cover (apart from the four characters) was even remotely close to happening in the picture... there's no dinosaurs... there's no barbarian women riding chopped Harlies... there aren't even any f*cking volcanoes in the movie!!! I realize ATHF is supposed to be asinine, but maybe it does it's job just a little too well...

...If they would have put a robotic-duck or even that stupid laser-shooting poodle, at least it would have been in context! Just because it was the designers intention to be lame, doesn't aleviate it from being such.
