I think Monsturd does pretty much exactly what it sets out to do.  It's gross, but it means to be.

When I was a kid, I used to have the Hildebrandt version of the poster on my bedroom wall. And I always thought that one was cheesy. Darth Vader has one eye much bigger and flatter than the other, and it was apparently drawn before the roles were cast, so Luke looks like George Kennedy. But apart from that, it's actually much better. Luke and Leia are standing on Tattoine, with the farm behind them. The droids are standing with them, to the same scale but farther back. A clearly defined Death Star battle is going on in the sky above them, and then we have Vader (the only piece not integrated into the scene) looming over everything in a threatening manner. The composition is much better all around, and the style also has more of an old-fashioned pulp sci-fi feel to it.

And if you look closely, Leia appears to be missing a finger on the hand holding the gun.  You try holding a pistol like that, with a index finger running along the gun and your middle finger pulling that trigger. Doesn't really work.

Yep, the Hildebrandt poster is a reworking of that design. The Hildebrandt brothers were brought in to basically bash out a quick alternate poster. They were told to go for more of a comic book feel, and didn't actually have photos of Luke and Leia (I looked that up, because the generic characters baffled me).

It didn't get used in theatres, but stores sold a lot of them. I had one on my wall for years.

Wow, the Hildebrandts?  It's ok, but I've seen considerably better work from them.  Apparently they had to do it in 36 hours.  Probably helps explain it.
