Killbots are coming to a Chopping Mall near you

Saw this today on Slashdot:

Which is pretty much the story behind the classic b-movie Chopping Mall.  The robot in the story does not have any weapons, but it does sport a laser range finder.  That's just begging to be armed.  Heck, that's just begging some hooligan to buy one, equip it with a random implement of destruction, and set it loose in a mall.
