A rat/man creature haunts the swamps of Louisiana killing rednecks. PG rated monster horror with little to no monster or horror. The creature (a guy in a suit)  is only seen a few seconds in the entire movie. No sex, no nudity, no gore (just a bit of blood), no drugs (except some moonshining), no nothing.

Filmed in 1984 as Nutriaman, The Copasaw Creature, this one is usually filed under Bigfoot movies. The monster even looks like bigfoot. If anything, it mixes elements of Wes Craven's Swamp Thing (1982) and Charles B. Pierce's Boggy Creek movies, but in truly poor C-movie fashion. It's kind of rare and it is on youtube I think for those Interested. Watch with caution  :teddyr:

It took me over a decade just to track down the name of this movie and just as long to track down a copy.
Hail to thyself
For I am my own master
I am my own god
I require no shepherd
For I am no sheep.

Gabriel Knight

I found that quote from Stephen King hilarious. It's probably from the janitor who just happened to be named like the famous writer.

King did a lot of coke in the 80s.

Notice the ellipses. The full quote actually reads "I recommend The Boogens be banned and its director shot. Watch a wildly energetic monster movie by Stephen King instead of this crap."
I'll take you places the hand of man has not yet set foot...

for the longest time I thought the poster said The Boogers  :bouncegiggle: :bouncegiggle:

You know the badness of The Boogens is cool when Quentin Tarantino shows it at his own theater (Beverly Theater)

Pretty sweet triple feature he did in October 2019

Kinda liked Boogens as a kid....
Thought the title was funny, that one guy who goes back to see what just attacked him, the way that girls towel stays in place...

When Wilford Brimley passed, I kept meaning to do a review of Death Valley (1982), but never got around to it....
Definitely some of Peter Billingsley's best work, while also a reminder that most of his films were pretty bad....
Interesting how they start off with Billingsley playing the four-eyed bookworm in which he was previously typecast, & then discard that idea & have him playing a kid for a change....

anything I think is 'rare' will probably turn out to be quite well known around these parts...

So did I. Coca-Cola, I mean.

side note - not sure if any of you have seen COCAINE COWBOYS. it's my favourite documentary of all time. I must've watched it at least 20 times. all about the cocaine scene in miami in the 80s. recommended. (even if the first 10 minutes or so makes it look like a sloppy college project)

Here's a handful I remember:
BLOOD SONG (1982)
Frankie Avalon sort of goes "back to the beach" (Coos Bay, OR) for this weird horror tale where he stars as a flute-playing loon who kills people.  I'd only heard of this on its USA Network appearances.  Frankie's performance is.. um.. different.

MAUSOLEUM (1983)
Weird supernatural horror flick with evangelist-turned-actor Marjoe Gortner as a guy whose wife is possessed by a demon that killed her mother.  Fairly gory.  Good old Aunt Esther (LaWanda Page) from Sanford & Son is in this!

THE COMING (1982) aka BURNED AT THE STAKE
A young girl is possessed by the spirit of a witch-finder from the 17th century in Salem, MA.  I only heard of this through a cable listing, and it disappeared from the lineup pretty quickly.  It's okay.  Bad film maven Bert I. Gordon directs.

EYES OF FIRE (1983)
Weird supernatural horror set in the mid 18th century where a bent preacher is saved from hanging by a witch.  When he and his family are attacked by Native American Indians on a raft they retreat to the forest which is infested with the spirits of dead Native Americans, who torment them with a lot of creepy visuals.

I own that Mausoleum / Blood Song Double Feature DVD. Fun movies with heaps of cheese. Mausoleum also has an amazing blu-ray release. The image quality is great and a huge improvement over the DVD.

The U.S. Home Video release of Blood Song is a bit of a mystery though. According to IMDb Blood Song was released to VHS by Coast-to-Coast Family Films. VHSCollector.com has a scan of the VHS and it shows Iver Films Services (listing Coast-to-Coast Family Films as distributer), but no release year. Never heard of either company. Appears to be a Canadian release. My guess is Blood Song never had a legit U.S. tape release.

I've seen The Coming once on late night cable TV but I barely remember anything about it.

Always enjoyed Eyes of Fire, but then again I have a soft spot for folklore horror. Eyes of Fire is coming for the first time to blu-ray in autumn. The disc will also feature a never before seen extended version.

The Deadly Intruder (1985)

A killer escapes a mental institution and stalks a young woman having a few guests over for a thanksgiving dinner. Very shallow slasher-like horror that never delivers the goods. Plenty of mundane stuff with a non-thrilling showdown. However, it is a rare slasher that never made the jump to DVD.

Mindkiller (1987)

A man finds a way to expand his mind in order to mind-control his surroundings. Shot-on-video trash with outstanding but bad practical f/x. It is kind of fun for what it is.

All's Fair (1989)

Employees of a company spent the weekend playing war games. Hilarity ensures. Not. Silly and unfunny Canadian comedy with an impressive cast. This one used to be in all rental stores back in the day, but it never made the transition to DVD. It is worth a watch for the cast alone.

THE LAST SLUMBER PARTY (1988)

guessing this might be somewhat rare... sounds like a mish mash of about 3 other films but I enjoyed it. it's extremely bad. I'd never heard of it till maybe last year. IIRC there are some actual fluffed lines... always a bonus!

hmm wonder how many 'escaped from a mental institution' films there are. practically a sub-genre in itself

this one's on youtube but I can't watch due to that new "verify your age" crap which I refuse to do
