I have several uncles who served, none of whom gave their lives, thankfully. Way back in the family tree I have an ancestor who died at Antietam.

Communism is pretty much dead. China has the third largest stock market in the world and its constitution protects the right to private property since 2004.

I think we should use the word "authoritarianism" instead of the outdated 20th century terms "fascism" and "communism," which are more emotional than descriptive in today's world.

Pretty sure most of the world lives under some kind of authoritarian rule; but hasn't this been true throughout all human history? Democracy and freedom are the exception, authoritarianism is the natural order.

I might say that even a democratic government can be authoritarian; the system just provides a safety valve for a peaceful transfer of power when the leaders start making decisions which cause real harm.

Freedom must be defined. What are we free to do? What are we free from? How do we balance those two goals, freedom to do good vs freedom from bad things? And how do we define what is good & bad?
