Instrumental pop. I don't believe I've ever heard an entire album of instrumental pop before, so it's interesting on that level.
I'll take you places the hand of man has not yet set foot...

"Exploding Trees & Airplane Screams" by Patterson Hood. Album cover looks like it belongs in the "Worst VHS Covers" thread.

Nuclear Death "Carrion for Worm" lp (1991)

as you might expect, it's extreme metal

"Flowers in the Spring" by Wrekmeister Harmonies. Sort of drone metal but I suspect it's too "out there" for most metalheads. Noise music fans only.

^^^I might possibly like that Quantic.

"so close to what" by Tate McRae. This is what the kids are listening to.

It's like Sun Ra never died.

"You're Dead!" by Flying Lotus. His feature film, KUSO, was so bad that I had to put this on to remind myself that I really like the guy when he sticks to music.

omgz, I simply must be down wiv da kidz! >heads to youtube<

checked out a track uploaded less than a day ago, on its way to 1M views... hey presto it sounds like every other standard auto-tuney tweeny pop song I've heard in the last 20 years, pretty much!   :bouncegiggle:

zombie: I think for the kids its about the lyrics relating to their experiences, not the adventurousness of the music. And if you're not old folks like us everything sounds a little fresher. It's honestly not much different than the 95% of music I listen to once and then never play again.

Described as a British Bruce Springsteen, I can hear it in a lot of the tracks.

that's very diplomatic of you :) when I was a kid my stance on music was the more esoteric, genre defying, and uncommercial the better, and anyone whose taste didn't extend beyond standard 'chart music' was my mortal enemy! !!

- in fact my taste / listening habits today are way less adventurous than when I was 12... maybe I was just a weird kid  :twirl:
