BURNT OFFERINGS (1976)

Watched it Sunday night at TCM.  I had seen it 45 years ago on a double bill with CARRIE.  I had not realized it was directed by DAN CURTIS whose crap I love.
This crap I do not love.   :tongueout:

The book is actually better.
We shall meet in the place where there is no darkness.

I love DAN CURTIS productions, I love KAREN BLACK, I love BETTE DAVIS, I enjoy OLIVER REED.  I do not love nor enjoy BURNT OFFERINGS.  BETTE is wasted! BLACK's performance is all over the place, but not in a good way, and though OLIVER chews on scenery, it doesn't help.  We hear their voices, chatting at the end, but we don't even get a cool creepy denoument with BURGESS MEREDITH and ELAINE STRITCH.  Lots of script problems with that deflated dud.

Here's the whole movie in under 3 minutes:

Seriously over-under acted with a pointless jumble of a script and not scary, maybe gross but not intentionally.  ROBERT COBERT provides music (just like he did with Dark Shadows) I kind of like it, but it's rotten.

I dunno. I found it a creepy haunted house movie.

I thought it was underwhelming and a waste of an outstanding cast.
I'll take you places the hand of man has not yet set foot...

Yeah?  Well that kid goes back into the pool ALONE with the previously murderous poppy catatonic immobile on a lawn chair watching and possessed MOM jumps in the pool to save her son from his 2nd near-drowning in the same pool...  the 2nd time, there was a tsunami in the pool...

This movie almost seems like a t.v. movie which isn't to surprising since Dan Curtis made a lot of them.  The creepy chauffer with the evil grin was the most memorable part of the movie.
