I picked.up THE SENDER on bluray the other day. never heard of it before but the blurb on the back says "Quentin Tarantino's favourite film of 1982". not watched it yet but that piqued my interest enough to buy it anyway
Quotethe movie was cringe, corny, cheesy and "what the biscuits" is with this atrocious acting and childish corny thing of a movie???

yeah, he's always been a huge fan of The Sender. I like it very much myself. It is usually labelled horror but I think it is more of a psychological thriller mystery with elements of horror, psychological horror, sci-fi and the supernatural. I'm probably making this sound more ambitious and artsy than the film actually is.

According to legend Tarantino once met the director of The Sender on a plane and told him how much he loved The Sender and that he did an Intergral cut combining the different versions. Apparantly the theatrical version differs from the home video version, and the TV version differs from the home video and theatrical version.

The Sender was a flop when released to theater, I think it only pulled in $7m. Because of that distributer Paramount decided to release the film straight to video and TV outside the U.S.
Is it October yet?

cool... look forward to watching whatever version of it I got. it's the Arrow release and there's a commentary by the director, I expect he might mention that Tarantino encounter!

on a similar note if I could make my own 'cut' of any film it would probably be PULP FICTION with the scenes in chronological order

think it was pretty ambitious tbh... not sure I got my head round it and will need to watch again. tonally it reminded me  of THE SHINING and THE BROOD (- with a hint of EXCORCIST 2: THE HERETIC?!). agreed it's not a straight horror.
