There was always Driving Over Miss Daisy from Stay Tuned, but I don't think that quite counts as a sequel alas.

John Carpenter's idea for The Thing 2 was that it was taking place in New York. No clue if he actually wrote a script or wanted to direct it.

In an early 1990s interview for a magazine, Geena Davis has said that she wanted to do a direct sequel to The Fly (1986). It was supposed to be produced by her back then newly founded company, together with Brooksfilms. The pitch for Fox Studios was that an army of fly-mutations were used to fight in a war in a foreign country. The sequel was to be called "Flies" and Davis had an fast-paced sci-fi military action horror like Aliens (1986) in mind.

She also said she would only do it if David Cronenberg returned as a director. I guess he turned down her offer.

I saw that at the cinema with my friend when it came out... seem to remember it had quite a bit of hype, but is barely mentioned these days. I'd forgotten all about it
