I've done a lot of makeshift "double-bills" (also a few triple and quadruple bills) at theaters, but the ones I remember most fondly are:

SONGS FROM THE SECOND FLOOR and THE PIANO TEACHER (Toronto, 2002)

GERRY and ALL THE REAL GIRLS (Buffalo, 2003)

Those were fun. I'll try to remember more high-quality ones...

PSYCHIC KILLER is funny.

practically every Vipco dvd I ever owned had the trailers for that, and SHOGUN ASSASSIN as the 'extras'... wonder if those 2 were ever double-billed together?

True or not, those are incredible double bills (okay, HOLLOW MAN notwithstanding).

>>> CREATURE FROM BLACK LAKE/THE TOWN THAT DREADED SUNDOWN(!977)

I would've loved to catch this one in '77 as a six-month old!  BounceGiggle    Definitely saw BLACK LAKE on TV way too young.

I seen DEATH DREAM (1974) with Elizabeth Taylor and for the life of me I can't recall. In 1976.
I think SHADOW OF THE HAWK (1976).
I was 14. At the Strand in Paw Paw, Michigan.

I buy that story!  Smile I saw tons of age-inappropriate stuff in the late 70s/early 80s. I bet a lot of youngsters got initiated into silver screen sex and violence at the drive-in, their parents expecting them to be fast asleep in the backseat by the end of the trailers.......

WIZARDS and DAMNATION ALLEY in 1977.  Not really a fan of either.  Tigard FAMILY DRI-VIN drive in theater off HWY99.  I was 6 and since they were both rated PG my folks must have thought it appropriate enough for kids.. not really.

Aliens and The Fly. Best double feature in the summer of 1986.

Local theater showed Micki + Maude (1984) and The Hearse (1980). In 1986. It was actually advertised as a double feature. I could never make sense of it. Cheating on your wife brings you to an early grave? The only reason we went was to see The Hearse on the big screen. I had seen it on video a few years before.

Worst must have been Death Before Dishonor (1987) and Black Moon Rising (1986). Two for one New World Double Feature. I was especially disappointed in Black Moon Rising which was written by John Carpenter. I expected more. Casting Linda Hamilton and Tommy Lee Jones didn't help much either.

Speaking of Carpenter, also seen Starman (1984) and Night of the Comet (1984) as a double feature.

There are quite a few (most I saw at the drive-in), but here are some:

* Vanishing Point / Dirty Mary, Crazy Larry
* Dixie Dynamite / Dirty Mary, Crazy Larry
* Moving Violation / Smokey & the Bandit
* Puppet on a Chain / Ben
* Dr. No / From Russia with Love / Goldfinger
* Creature from the Black Lagoon / It Came from Outer Space (both in 3-D)
* Rolling Thunder / Mad Max
* The Three Musketeers / The Four Musketeers (the theater messed up and showed them in reverse order)
* Race with the Devil / W.W. and the Dixie Dance Kings
* The Legend of Hell House / The Other
* Everything You Always Wanted to Know About Sex (But Were Afraid to Ask) / Sleeper
* Take the Money and Run / Return of the Pink Panther
* Mother's Day / Dawn of the Dead
