Lawton, Michigan for me. Since 1969. Went back and forth to NYC in the 70's and 80's.

My house right before me and Tiana moved in in 2015-

Not real big, but neither am I!
The population of Lawton is 1,724 as of 2022.
That's not much and it's spread out over farmland. Hell, I can walk 2 streets over and pick grapes! ( If I could walk  Bluesad)

Pretoria, South Africa.

Been here since January 1987 when I left Zimbabwe to study.

Got a job here in 1989, finished studies two years later and here I still am.

I know I can make it on my own if I try, but I'm searching for the Great Heart

Louisville, KY, or rather the suburbs thereof. The largest small city in America. The northernmost part of the south, the westermost part of the eastern time zone, with a culture that's half-midwestern and half-southern. Home of horse racing and (more importantly) bourbon. A good place to raise up a family, unfortunately. It's an oasis of cosmopolitanism surrounded by a desert of fundamentalism, but the license only goes so far: women at strip clubs must remain clothed at all times. The bourbon is the best part though.

Lossiemouth in Morayshire, Scotland. An ex fishing village that once once a major port for the export of whisky and the import of materials to support it. Today, it has the last remaining RAF flying base in Scotland and home to the Quick Reaction Force which gets activated whenever Russian aircraft come poking around our airspace (about once a month), or any other air-related incidents in our area of interest. It has two gorgeous beaches and is a well kept secret from the tourist industry. Thanks to the Gulf Stream it has its own microclimate where the weather is much better than places just 2 miles away. I've been living here since 2003 and although I'd like to move to a city I am also happy here. There are about 8000 people in the village making it the smallest place I've ever lived. We are in the heart of whisky country with I don't know how many distilleries within 20km of it. I think its something like 160, but I could be wildly wrong there.

Beaverton, OR.  Good neighborhood (greatly upgraded over what it used to be, with a high volume of carjacking).  Plenty of good restaurants, bars, shops, malls, parks, theaters, entertainment, transportation, etc.  Nike World Headquarters, rustic Downtown, bustling Transit Center, and plenty of good job opportunities (especially in the electronic tech fields) are also big draws.  The main drawbacks are construction (REALLY bad right now on 217 and a few blocks on Beaverton-Hillsdale Hwy) and some a-hole police (though they bug me a lot less than they used to).  My house is right near 217 and Allen Blvd.; nice cozy 1950's home that I poured a lot of money into to upgrade (new toilets, pipes, deck, lawn, fence, hot tub, washer/dryer, fridge, oven) to offset the bargain I got it for ($168K).  2 1/2 years more and I'll have it paid off thanks to a raise/bonus at work and steady renter payments ($500 a month).
