i can't really remember which movie it was, i'm thinking it was "killers from space", but i seem to recall some strange edits. particularly, it was in a scene where someone was relaying location info back to a military air tower, some of the actor's lines were played backwards, or otherwise mangled.

does anyone know what i'm talking about, or did i just sound like a crazy man?

both?

Gee...I only saw "Killers from Space" once and it was several years ago. I would have to see it again to recall the scene you described. Nevertheless,I am intrigued by your desciption of the army guy talking backwards. Did you catch this film on TV or was it a VHS or DVD rental? The reason I ask is because if it was on TV,maybe the backwards speech was the result of a technical difficulty. I remember watching an old "Star Trek" rerun back in the late 70's and something similiar happened in the middle of the episode when Sulu was talking. His sentences sounded high pitched and garbled.  I am positive his weird speech was not part of that particular episode's plot. To provide more clues, this episode was seen on a low budge UHF station, and they were constanly having technical glitches. Do you think maybe the backwards speech in "Killers from Space" was done in the original film version on purpose? Maybe the army officer was talking in a military secret code,or perhaps "Pig Latin"?

Sincerely,Steve.

it's entirely possible, but it certainly sounded like a modern edit. when it happened, it was almost creepy. if i recall, they also blocked out some portion of the screen with a fuzzy grey box during one scene, again on the military base. i think they were obscuring something racially insensitive, like a "kill the japs" poster or something. i really wish i could figure out which movie it was. i think it's either "the beginning of the end", "killers from space" or "fiend without a face".

Looking back at this post I seem to remember another example of a strange edit. Does anybody recall the scene in the original "Carrie" (1976) when the boys are in the men's clothing store trying on their prom suits? For a few seconds, the film speeds up, and they sound like high pitched "chipmunks". I thought this was a glitch at first when I first saw "Carrie" on local network TV. But the weird talking is also there on my sister's VHS copy. I think this scene might have been filmed this way on purpose. Maybe director Brian DePalma sped up the scene, and their voices, to create some comedy relief?

Does anybody have any opinions regarding this scene?

Sincerely,Steve.

The scene in Carrie was meant for comic relief . . . it did seem really out of place, huh?
