Metal. Ugh. Anything harder than Led Zeppelin always sounds like a man with anger issues yelling at a malfunctioning washing machine. (Sorry, I just don't get it.)

I don't get Norwegian death metal like my buddy is into. It's not singing, it's growling. Call it growling and I'm cool with it but can't fool me, man, I know singing when I hear it.
Oh no. That s**t is-ugh! It sounds like a dog barking.  I just watched a doc on Norway's metal scene-dam.
Greek Nazi's are into it. Lotsa Nazi's are into it.

A mess of Messershmitts!

I don't get paying over a dollar for flavored water.
You can do that with Kool-Aid-and it's much cheaper.

I'm a metal fan but I don't "get" the death or black metal genres either.

Death Metal vocals irritate the crap outta me. I like guys who can sing (or at least shout convincingly). Too many bands sound like they got Cookie Monster on the mic. "WOOOOOOARRRRRRGH!"

My brother was big into the death metal scene when we were growing up so it's not like I'm not used to it. I even went to a handful of shows with him back in the day (Morbid Angel, Obituary, etc.) -- I can appreciate the insane musicianship but I can't tell ya how many bands I've heard that sounded great till the vocalist opened his mouth.

Black Metal is a whole 'nother planet. A lotta those dudes shouldn't be walking around loose. In that world, your band isn't "true" till you've desecrated a grave, set fire to a church, murdered at least one of your band mates, and eaten his liver.

The Wilhelm scream

Probably more a case of never paying attention to it.

More recognizable to me is the thunder storm stock sound they used mostly in 1970s productions.

Ever get cut and you don't feel a darn thing, then you notice you're bleeding and only then does it start to hurt? Weird, huh?

I once sliced my leg open as a kid running a race around a house under construction, and I brushed into this fresh concrete basement wall that had an edge like a razor. I felt the bump when I hit it in passing but kept running, and the other girls I was with starting freaking out and screaming and pointing. I looked down and a flap of skin about the size of a quarter was hanging off my calf, partly sheared in a sideways U shape, yet until then I didn't feel anything whatsoever. (Then it hurt, oh, yes, ma'am.)

In a bit of good luck, a cosmetic surgeon happened to be at the hospital and came down to the emergency room and stitched my leg so finely, putting in three stitches where most doctors would have used one, that I've sometimes challenged people to find where that place is, and most of them haven't been able to.

I think a lot of pain is what we make of it.

When people taste wine and say they detect notes of stone and apples and rain, fresh clay and hints of oak. Not calling them deluded, good for them, but to me it always tastes like sour grapes and I gag.
