Old vs. New: Battlestar Galactica

The old Battlestar was so full of the cheese that made is fantastic, but what about the new Battlestar? I personally love it, but I'm curious as to what other people think. Boomer's now a Cylon and Starbuck is a woman.... Its defiantly not your parents Battlestar.

I don't like the new Battlestar Galactica.

The original version may seem like cheese now, but it was cutting edge back in the late 70s. It was on a major network and got good ratings. It was  a fun show with great characters.

This new version took all the fun out of the original and replaced with pretentious melodrama. Why are the lights always off on board the Galactica? Why are the camera's constantly shaking and moving around? Why are the characters whipsering to one another rather than talking normally? Why do the Cylons look like people? Is that skinny blond chick supposed to be attractive?

The new BSG is very, very dull.

I like both now, but the 10 year old me would not at all like the new version.   I religously watched the 70's one as a kid.

The two shouldn't even be compared. Edward James Olmos said before the BSG mini series that die hard fans of the old 70's show shouldn't even watch it because it was so different.

I like both, the old for nostalgia (sorry, but the only thing special about it was the SFX) it was a typical 70's adventure series with the wise old guy, the handsome straight arrow hero, and the wise cracking ladies man. The new one I like, because it's dark and gritty, like the end of the human race would actually be.

The old show was the most expensive show made up to that time and was cancelled because of the cost. The ratings were always good.

By the way, the new show moves to Sunday nights in January.

I liked the original "Battlestar Galactica" and have gotten into the new series as well.  In fact, the new BSG is the only show I ever watch.  What does appeal to me is the slowly diminishing pool of resources.  Sometimes the social drama that unfolds between the characters is a bit contrived, but I have liked seeing space combat between advanced races being short and brutal.

The new series is in the mold of Babylon 5 and I think it is science fiction at its best:  It is about the human condition -- how to settle conflicts, determine what it means to be human, etc. And while the milieu is important, really the story could be rewritten to be today or at anytime in the past.

Ah, Twiki is from "Buck Rogers."  You must remember, "Beda-beda-beda!  How's it goin', Buck?"  The robotic dog from the original Battlestar was called a daggit (or something) and named "Muffit" (again, or something).

Science fiction is supposed to be about the effect of technology on society. Sci-fi is a genre that evolved as a result of the industrial revolution.

Ah, Twiki is from "Buck Rogers."  You must remember, "Beda-beda-beda!  How's it goin', Buck?"  The robotic dog from the original Battlestar was called a daggit (or something) and named "Muffit" (again, or something).

Yeah, they could never with the Muffet character now, it was actually a chimp in a suit. I also noticed on the new BSG that the kid Boxie only made it into the mini series and I think the first regular episode.

I love the new series, but agree that it is the polar opposite compared to the original. I remember watching the original faithfully when it first aired, and I still enjoy it - I even bought the DVD's, but I'll still make room for the new one.

I absolutely love the old Battlestar.  Yeah it's cheesy, but it's just absolutely perfect in my opinion.  I remember when I was  a little kid, we'd drive into town to my Grandma's house and watch it, since we didn't get  that channel out in the country where we lived.  Never got into the new one at all, it's like the Jerry Springer show with special effects.  If that's all that's left of humanity after the big one, the galaxy would probably be a lot better off if the Cylons won.

I really disliked that dog... I mean, did anyone else think parts of him were held on with duct tape?

Boxie had an awsome part in the new battlestar. He wasn't such a goodie goodie. I loved his answer to Tigh after he asked,  "Wheres your mom?" Boxie replied, "She's dead. Wheres yours?"
