While waiting for the bus yesterday I thought this up, I couldn't post it at home because I had work to do. My favorite opening credits music for first place is "Escape from New York" the music is weird but I like it, I think all the music in that movie really helps the mood. The opening credits music is my favorite music out of all of "EfNY" Second place: 'Conan the Barbarian" what kick ass music. When I think about this music I think of Arnold Swarnzenger and swords. 3rd place: "La Femme Nikita" the heavy metal music really sets the setting and mood of the movie.

I am drawing a blank on some good ones I know, but I did think of "Apocalypse Now" with "The End" by the Doors. That music really fit the on-screen scenes.
I tend to at least partly judge a movie by the opening music (if there is any); the music is like a prelude to the effort put into the whole project.

INVASION OF THE BODY SNATCHERS (1978) - Great score by Denny Zeitlin...one of my all-time fave opening credits themes MASTERS OF THE UNIVERSE - One of Bill Conti's best action themes..the main title just sweeps you into the film and the action of the opening scene SUPERMAN (1978) - Also one of John Williams' best of that genre he's so often worked in THE FINAL CONFLICT (1981) - My favorite of Jerry Goldsmith's OMEN scores BRIDE OF FRANKENSTEIN (1935) - One of Franz Waxman's best FORBIDDEN PLANET - the first electronic score ever KING KONG (1933) - 'Nuff said HALLOWEEN (1978) - Great the first time it was used in the first film, and then overused in all the sequels STAR TREK: THE MOTION PICTURE (1979) - The first and best of the Trek movie themes

I'm not sure it's the opening music, but I like the music that plays at various points in Phantasm.

The Theme to It's Garry Shandling's show. "This is the theme to Garry's show . . ." funny, no?

Hmmmm....tough to narrow it down since I'm such a huge fan of movie music, but here goes:
1. Krystof Komeda's theme for "The Fearless Vampire Killers" (seems like I've been throwing that one around a lot lately, but it's one of my favorite movies.) 2. The opening theme to Hammer's "Twins of Evil." 3. "Edward Scissorhands" by Danny Elfman 4. The pounding version of the Godzilla theme by Akira Ifukube used at the start of "Godzilla vs. the Thing." 5. Too many Kung Fu films and Spaghetti Westerns to mention. 6. Two really eerie pieces of opening music, used in "The Creeping Flesh" and "The Blood on Satan's Claw."

Although I thought it was typical 50's goofy music, the theme from The Blob has always stuck in my head. I even heard it over the speaker system in one of those shlocky chain restaurants (Friday's I think) and it brought a smile to my face.
Beware of the blo......ob.

Never actually seen the movie, but I love the theme song from "The Green Slime."
"Is it just something in your head? WILL YOU BELIEVE IT WHEN YOU'RE DEAD?! GREEEEEEEEN SLIIIIIIIIIIIME!!!"
