hey all.

i'm talking about tone here---like in "bad taste" but especially "dead alive"-type tone.

camera angles and that raw quality like that established early on in "dead alive" during the rat-monkey capture scene. and in the baby-in-the-park scene. it's kind of hard for me to describe, but i'm sure you get the idea. somehow jackson does it even during daylight scenes. ED2 is CLOSE with the ash flying-through-the-trees scene. but right away in "dead alive," jackson sets an uneasy tone----you know that you must expect the unexpected. in "bad taste" i think of the head-shot scene on the shore.

i'm looking for other movies/directors that come close to the same type of feeling. not necessarily gore like jackson...

ALSO: i haven't seen much fulci or argento, but these guys are in the similar vein with "zombie" and "trauma"---the two i have seen.

thanks,
-mr. henry

Check out Body Melt -- very PJ. It even has similarly flavored 'down-under' accents.

Maybe street trash or The Story of Ricky for over the topness (like Jackson's films) but I really can't think of any movies that are similar to Peter Jackson's really.

Trauma is not the Argento film I would recommend seeing first check out his earlier stuff like The bird with the crystal plumage, Deep Red, and Tenebre. I've never really liked Fulci, but films like: zombie, the beyond, city of living dead, house by the cemetery (basically his undead related films) I enjoyed.

i'll throw one more that comes to mind fitting in with my post above. "cemetary man" aka "dellamorte dellamore." it too has that strange certain something that i described above.

thanks for the suggestions,

All of Michele Soavi's movies are good but thats the one hes known most for. He made some Italian tv movies a few years back but I'm hoping he does another horror movie sooner or later.

Cemetery Man and Street Trash are so great.....

For a lower budget angle, try Frank Henenlotter's stuff: Basket Case (I-III), Frankenhooker, Brain Damage
