The first film is pretty much perfect. It doesn't need a damn remake and this is about the 7th that I've heard of them trying.
The face who brought Pennywise to life in the most recent adaptation of Stephen King’s It is now up for another iconic character. This time, Skarsgard would be playing none other than the avenging angel known as The Crow. The new approach to a reboot will also have Rupert Sanders on a director. Sanders directed Snowhite and the Huntsman and Ghost in the Shell.
It wasn’t even a year ago that, The Crow had a different remake in the works with Jason Momoa behind the pale makeup. I was very against it for the plain and simple fact that he was just wrong for the part. The Crow isn’t a muscle-bound cromag. He cuts a thin visage. He doesn’t need muscles to kill the bad guys, its his rage and vengeance that get him through.
The James O’Barr graphic novels by the same name are 80s cult icon books that centered on a person brought back from the dead to avenge the love of their lives after a fateful Halloween Eve left both of them deceased.
Most memorably, Brandon Lee played The Crow in the cult Alex Proyas directed goth, punk outsider fest. Lee was tragically killed on set.
Fans already hate a reboot. But, try creating a reboot for a film whose lead was killed during production and you have true, unfiltered fan hate.
I have a feeling that fans will be a lot more onboard with Skarsgard in the role of The Crow. He is a better fit for the legacy in more ways than one.
Skarsgard is already in the good graces of fans for his portrayal of Pennywise the Dancing Clown. His upcoming role in John Wick 4 will only compact that fan love more-so.
The synopsis for The Crow goes like this
The night before his wedding, musician Eric Draven (Brandon Lee) and his fiancée are brutally murdered by members of a violent inner-city gang. On the anniversary of their death, Eric rises from the grave and assumes the gothic mantle of the Crow, a supernatural avenger. Tracking down the thugs responsible for the crimes and mercilessly murdering them, Eric eventually confronts head gangster Top Dollar (Michael Wincott) to complete his macabre mission.
Personally, I would be okay with Skarsgard in the role of The Crow and I feel like other fans will too. I have a feeling that this reboot would do things with the upmost respect for Lee and his work. There are always ways to pay homage.
We will be sure to keep all news The Crow coming. Until then, what are your thoughts on a Crow reboot starring Skarsgard?
