Happy day after Easter, and I thought I'd tell you all that my lovely wife graced me with Donnie Darko yesterday, which I considered apropo.  Not the director's cut, which is okay, since I have never seen it, just heard plenty good about it.
Also picked up Evil Dead 2, The Fly (1958), The Return of the Fly (1959), The Fly (1986), King Kong (1933).  I had a chance last weekend to see Jackson's remake; it was fine enough, but I have always been partial to Willis O'Brien's stop-motion critter.  The copy I have is the Warner Bros release, 10 bucks, not the 20 buck double disc special edition--which is fine for me.
As to Evil Dead 2, I have a soft spot for The Evil Dead, guerrila filmmaking at it's best.  My wife brought home Army of Darkness about a year ago and said, "Isn't this like your movie?"  I had to complete the saga..2 is a bit too frenetic for me, less dark and more humerous than its predecessor, but as a whole it is enjoyable enough--I imagine I am in the minority in this opinion.
The Fly is a great Cronenberg effort, but the original provided horrendous childhood nightmares, especially the classic Web Scene.  Sure Al Hedison wore a rubber mask, obviously, and the wrestling-with-yourself bit has been done elsewhere, but I can't recall a single feature in recent years in awhich two little words can send shivers up your spine.

Great selection of goodies to be had.  What did you think of Donnie Darko?

I also quite enjoyed The Fly [86 version] quite a bit myself as well, though I must admit I haven't seen the original so I can't compare the two.

Besides that, I own all three Evil Dead films, but actually have only watched the first 15 minutes of the second one, which has always seemed odd to me [the fact I haven't watched it, not the film itself]  I guess I just haven't been in the mood, despite loving both Evil Dead 1 and Army of Darkness.  That is something I must rectify very quickly!
