Hey, I'm in the situation room ! ! !

Watched some TV tonight and this is what i caught:

Dog The Bounty Hunter - Been wanting to see this show since it first came on the air, but some how was never able to see it till now. Really liked the show a lot. Dog and his family of bounty hunters are like watching COPS only different. Guess it's because of the man called Dog. He makes the show happen. Besides the capturing of fugitives and such this week he visited a dying young girl who's only request was to meet Dog. After rounding up a meth maker on the Big Island of Hawaii he visits the girl. I'm now a big fan of the show.

Ghost Hunters - This is one of my favorite TV shows and my wife watched it for the first time tonight as they showed 2 episodes. Well, she caught a bad night as the most they caught on film was some dust that looked like an orb and some scratchy audio that faintly said "We are Coming". My wife was slightly dissappointed and she didn't seem assured when I said they had a bad night and that they usually get something a little more interesting. Hopefully she will try again.

A&E (Murder Cases don't remember the exact name of the show) - This was an interesting one where they visited the Defeo guy who killed his whole family at the famous Amityville house before the next owners cashed in on this by claiming the house was haunted and wrote a book called AMITTYVILLE HORROR and did a movie with the same title. Anyway a psychologist interviewed Defeo in prison to see how he feels about it more than 30 years later. His story has changed and they believe he is just trying to get out of jail by claiming he only killed his parents his older sister and that the older sister killed his brothers and sisters before he had to kill her. I never knew much more about the real murders in that house except what the movie tells us, but this 1 hour feature told the whole story with graphic photos , interviews, and everything.

I've seen a couple of episodes of Ghost Hunters and it is an interesting show.  I like how they come across as skeptics with open minds (at least that's the way it was the couple of times I've seen it).

I always watch Ghost Hunters but have been disappointed with the way the show is going lately. They are turning it into more of a soap opera than anything else. During the first season it was a solid show with a good mix of everything but it's moving away from that and focusing on drama. Being in the same "hobby" as these guys makes the show more interesting to me when they spend more time searching for ghosts and less time searching for the biggest whiner or back stabber. I have talked to Jason from the show and he seems like a decent, honest guy but he claims that they have very little control over the show as it's pretty much SciFi that decides what will be shown out of all the footage for each hunt.

Yea, GHOSTHUNTERS tend to find little, but when they do its good. Also they have good lead in segments with the home owner or building keeper before they go in so we know a little about the house. This helps set the stage for the evenings investigation. Love this stuff. Lots of fun.

Always wished they brought back the show FEAR on MTV.

Wow, Odinn7 meets Ghosthunters.....I was just commenting to my wife on why I'm not doing something like what they do on Ghosthunters. Well, she gave me that look like when I showed her the movie FOOD OF THE GODS and the big chicken in the barn starts pecking at Gortner.

Odinn7 didn't you say you were involved with ghosthunting in Northeastern PA?

FEAR was faked but a real fun show to watch. They picked "real" haunted places such as Eastern State Pen in Pennsylvania but did things to scare the people on the show to make it more exciting. I always wanted to be on it as I figured it would be easy money for me since none of that stuff scares me at all. I did realize though, that I would never have fit the type of person that MTV was looking for.

Yes Scott, I'm in a group around here. Actually, they're about 2 hours from here but I have trained with them and been on hunts. They gave me the ok to head a satellite group up here in NEPA. I am a big skeptic, though I do believe, but I always look for an explanation for things first. They are somewhat put off by me because of this as they seem to be more on the side of wanting to believe so badly that they overlook things that could be the cause of certain things. They are good people and mean well however. Where in NJ are you? If you're interested and close enough that you'd be willing to drive here, I could bring you along next time we go to something worth seeing. Let me know if you're interested.

Scariest Places On Earth...The one with Linda Blair as the "host"? I wanted to do that show too...I eat the stuff up and get a rush out of doing it. I am the tunnel rat of our group as I will go anywhere that others are unwilling to go. Of course, one day I may see something that will cause me to scream like a 5 year old girl but until then...

Have you read The Statement of Randolph Carter by HP Lovecraft?

We're all just victims of circumstance

I used to watch American Chopper, but it became so much about the father and sons arguing with each other all the time instead of the bikes they were building it just got boring.

Ghost Hunters is the same way, full of manufactured drama. It seems on all these reality shows they have time limits put on everything so that there is a drama element.

Odinn7 it would be fun for sure, but I can't journey up that far for a good ghost hunt. Supposedly we have our own haunts here in Southern New Jersey, so I'd have to check out the local scene first.

They have ghost tours down this way in Cape May and Ocean City. We also have our own legends and even The Jersey Devil house where it was born which was the family home of the creature who lived only 10 miles from here. Took pictures of it once the trees around it are so bizarre.

Haunted places that I've been to are:

Alcatraz, San Fransisco, CA
Eastern State Penetentuary, Philadelphia, PA
Winchester Mystery House, San Jose, California
Gettysburg, PA
Strausburg, PA Ghost Tour
Old Town, San Diego, CA (one old home is haunted)

We have visited mostly haunted tourist places and the only place that we noticed anything visually strange and that was in Strausburg, PA. in the cemetary and the downtown store front. All the other places had atmosphere, but the history of each of the places over shot the mystery of the places. If you where in any of those places by alone you would probably experience something. Eithier real or imaginary..........

Odinn7 do you work with equipment like in Ghosthunters?

Ok Scott...I don't know why I was thinking you were more toward Northern NJ. From where you are it would be about 5 hours to get here. Oh well, thought I'd offer.

We use similar equipment but you need to remember, SciFi channel paid for new things for TAPS (I don't care what they say, plumbers with kids didn't buy all that new stuff, including a $20,000 Thermal Imaging Cam) and regular people can't afford those things. I personally use digital cameras, digital 8mm video camera with night vision, digital voice recorders, thermocouple thermometers, and a few other things. Our main group also has audio equipment and a few wireless cameras along with the basics.
