Stupid fat hobbit...

« on: July 04, 2006, 08:57:38 AM »

My wife works for one of Australia's biggest DVD specialists. A couple of weeks back they were desperate for people to come in on a Saturday and pack DVD's into tins.  She was going to work anyway to finish off a stocktake, so I figured hey, why not.  Then came the bonus.  They paid me in DVD's!

I'm not sure if my wife will ever let me back in there, unfortunately.  She is scared of what might happen with me loose in a DVD warehouse!  A few hours into it some of the other people I was working with were saying they never wanted to see Labyrinth or Dark Crystal again after packing thousands of them.  Me, I wanted to go home and watch them straight away!

In return for 5 hours of fairly simple labour, I recieved the following (at my request) :

Cannibal Women In The Avocado Jungle Of Death
Chopper Chicks In Zombie Town
Terror Firmer
Society
Dario Argento's Opera
The Frighteners (3 disc Director's Cut Edition)

Needless to say I am pretty excited about this, and have offered my services any time in future that they may need more DVD's packed into tins.

So far I have watched the first 3, but have seen the bottom 3 previously.

Cannibal Women In The Avocado Jungle Of Death was great - I have decided that if I ever have to make my mother-in-law watch a bad movie, this will be it (BTW I actually like my Mother-In-Law).

Chooper Chicks In Zombie Town far exceeded my expectations - I loved this movie. Not sure why, I just did.

Terror Firmer - well, that was a good example of why I should go to bed when I am about to fall asleep instead of going and watching a DVD.  The bits I actually saw were ok.... honestly, I swear I was really tired before I put it on!  One day I'll watch it when I can stay awake, and hopefully I'll follow it better.

Damn you Rombles, what a great deal!!!

Is there anything special about The Frighteners 3 disc edition, or is it just more of Peter Jackson spruiking all the extra features he loves so much?

Oh and both Cannibal Women and Chopper Chicks have great titles, and I've been very tempted to buy myself a copy of them just for the titles alone, but have layed off since I shouldn't be spending too much money lately, but after hearing that not only do they have fun titles, but are great to watch as well, I may just make the next step.

The Frighteners thing I got claims to be a "3 Disc Directors Cut Edition" - whether that means that it is a directors cut of the movie, therefore different to what was released and seen elsewhere, or whether it is simply a reference to the extra material on the other two discs I am not sure.  There certainly does appear to be a lot of extras on it - When I get around to watching it, if I can figure out if the movie is different I'll let you know!

I'm not sure if I'm allowed to mention the name of the company my wife works for, but I can tell you that they currently have Cannibal Women In The Avocado Jungle Of Death in stock, but are temporarily out of Chopper Chicks In Zombie Town ("Tromillenium Edition"!!!!)   Also Society and Terror Firmer are no longer available - but I'm not sure they were ever actually officially available in Australia anyway  - at least not this particular version of Society - when I saw it years ago on VHS it was an M rated version (similar to US R rating) whereas this DVD has an Australian R Rated sticker on it, and claims to be the "unrated" version.  But it is so long since I saw it last that I wouldn't be able to pick any differences between versions anyway.

The other bonus of her working there, of course, is that when I am not getting paid in DVD's, she can get them for me at cost price anyway!  Convincing her to do a staff order for the titles I am after is the tricky bit, though....

Sounds like a fun batch. Though I must admit that I couldn't watch more the 10 minutes of BIKER CHICKS FROM ZOMBIE TOWN.

Rombles, you are a lucky man! It would only be a bad situation of they decided to pay you in DVDs of movies you thought sucked.

Luckily I have a wishlist set up in their database :-)
I can pick what I want, not what they have lots of and want to get rid of!
