I'm trying to compile a list of scifi, fantasy and horror films from the 1950's that were shot in color and am realizing how few there were. So far my list includes:

War of the Worlds
When Worlds Collide
This Island Earth
Forbidden Planet
The Fly
4D Man
Gog
Invaders From Mars
The 7th Voyage of Sinbad
The Blob

I almost included The Angry Red Planet but realized it was released in 1960. I also am not including films that had segments or endings that were in color, like War of the Colossal Beast, How to Make a Monster or Monster From Green Hell. Can you guys think of any more?

The FDA has been looking for a generic name for Viagra. After careful consideration by a team of government experts, it recently announced that it has settled on the generic name of Mycoxafloppin. Also considered were Mycoxafailin, Mydixadrupin, Mydixarizin, Dixafix, and of course, Ibepokin.

You caught many that I thought of.  Also, "Rodan" is in color.  Funny thing, someone had also just emailed me about "The H-Man," so that one came to mind.  I believe it is also in color and the IMDB agrees, but could be mixing it up with Goke (maybe only a small part of H-Man is in color).

D'oh. I forgot all about films from Japan. That's pretty bad for me.  Buggedout

I haven't seen The H-man in years, but I do recall it was in color. I recorded it off a pay cable channel some time in the early 90's, but lost the tape many years ago. The scenes aboard the abandoned ship were very creepy to me as a kid. I'd love that to come to region 1 DVD.

HOUSE of WAX was in color,I believe.
How can you forget the great Hammer horrors like HORROR of DRACULA,CURSE of FRANKENSTIEN and the MUMMY?
JOURNY to the CENTER of the EARTH(1959)
FROM the EARTH to the MOON(1958)
CONQUEST of SPACE(1954)
20,000 Leagues UNDER the SEA(1954)
GOG(1954) was first released in color, but all color prints have seemed to vanished.
DESTINATION MOON(1950)
I WAS a TEEN-AGE FRANKENSTIEN had a breif color segment towards the end, much like COLASSAL BEAST.(I just bought this at a used VHS store...GREAT stuff!)

More:the MYSTERIANS(57) and its semi-sequel BATTLE in OUTER SPACE(1959) Japenese.
BEAST from HOLLOW MOUNTAIN(1956) US/Mexico
ANIMAL WORLD(55) has great Harryhausen dinosauer animation !

the HAUNTED STRANGLER (58) with Karloff.
HUNCHBACK of NOTRE DAME(1957) with Anthony Quinn.Italy/France
HERCULES(1957)
REVENGE of FRANKENSTIEN (1958) UK
JACK and the BEANSTALK(1952) with Abbott and Costello. Oddly, this has a short B/W sequence ala WIZARD of OZ.
I noticed forgien films used color more in sci-fi films than US companys did. It seems like the US felt sci-fi was not a big money deal, unless it was backed by George Pal or Disney. It took AIP and teenagers to show the big companies that there was gold in them thar monsters.

Man, I did not think that "The Mysterians" was that old.  Same thing with the Hammer films - I thought that they were all from the 60's.  Good catches there.

Flight To Mars (1951)

Nice catch, and I thought RCMerchant had nearly exhausted the ones missed earlier.  Welcome to the forum.

Yeah, this is a tough one, because you have to acknowledge films from the '50's that do not SEEM like '50's films --
"Horror of Dracula" -- the seminal Chris Lee/Peter Cushing film, was also made in 1958 -- with lurid Hammer Technicolor blood!!
The Gene Barry version of "War of The Worlds" -- very color/1953.

Is Queen of Outer Space ever going to make it to DVD? I haven't seen it yet.

Seeing "Hercules" reminded me that its sequel, "Hercules Unchained," which came out in 1959 was in color.
