Rita Mae Brown uses this film to point out the risks you take when you sell your work to Hollywood. I'm not a fan of Ms. Brown's work, but I am a big fan of her as an individual and as a successful writer. She knows what she's doing when she works, I just don't care for her usual subject matter...it's just a matter of tastes. I own copies of her writing manual and her autobiography. She's an excellent script writer and has credits to prove it...but this movie isn't one of them. Hollywood took the story, handed her the cash and this film is the s**t we got from the transaction. Ms. Brown is a very practical Southern lady and from what I understand has seen no real problem here...a business deal is a business deal. I'm not that big a person, maybe I don't posess the self confidence she  does...If it were my story, story rights be damned, I'd go insane trying to get even with the mongrels who made this piece of s**t. Don't bother watching this whack-and-hack garbage. A bad film made from an original bad idea is one thing, a fouled attempt to realize a decent original idea is also one thing...but to steal, or bribe with cash, to get a perfectly usable and even good idea then mangle it up like this...It just leaves a truely rotten stench from start to finish...and the damned thing lingers.

Heh, this one has a ton of sequels.  4 of em maybe?

Oh yeah, made almost entirely by women.  Interesting, isn't it?

Believe it or not, the script for this piece of crap was written by best-selling mystery author Rita Mae Brown, who for some reason insists on crediting her cat as co-author on most of her novels. Oh yeah, the director later made the Halle Berry vehicle The Rich Man's Wife.

(SPOILER)

Stupid Highlight: The heroine cuts the killer's (drilling) tool in half with a machete; the killer screams and falls down "dead." I can't remember if he was actually clutching his groin or not, and I'm not about to sit through this zero-grade buttchunk again to find out--but this might help explain the woman-director angle. Maybe.

I've seen much better slasher-flicks than this, but it is not bad at all.

When I was about nine years old I stayed up late and snuck this movie. I got to see gore, nudity, and I thought one hell of a scary movie.
Then I rented this movie about two years ago, at age 26 and I must admit the this might be the worst film ever made. If there intention was to scare nine year olds it worked. Anyone over that age however will find this movie to be downright apalling. The killer armed with a slow moving 4foot drill is all of five foot two, and none of the party goers decide to leave when they discover a maniac is in there house.
So if you'r ever drunk and looking for a movie to make fun of with your friends then by all means grab this usless waste of film.

I remember rentin this whe I was a10 year old pervert beacause I thought It was porn."I can't believe I actually got away with renting it!"
I told my best friend at the time, well I remember the box said it was shot entirley by women.Odd,beacuse all the nudity here is at completley unneccsaary places but still a good cheese slasher for a rainy day (hey it is raining!)

Fools all of you! This is a great movie, especially because it was made by women. That's what makes it so amusing.

This Movie was Very good, I liked it a lot. the gore Fx were good. and Russs thorn was an exellent killer, and the movie was realistic and beliveable (espaecialy the 3erd Slumber party massacre movie) But probably the best thing about this movie was the music, the main theme is both kind of scary sounding and Cool, i hope the webmaster for this site puts up another soud clip of the main theme (the music from the bginning Credits) But not just a clip, the whole 2 or 1 and a half minutes of it.

you Here me Webmaster, Bring on the music score!
            Please.

I liked the show at the time, probably helped by the old & classic theatre I saw it in. But I'm surprised no-one picked up on my favourite bit from the show: The pizza boy coming to the door, the lines (may not be totally right, from memory) <knocking>, Pizza! <fumbling for money> What's the damage? <sound of the drill> Three...so far. Corny/clever.

Classic 80's movie in the style of Halloween and Friday the 13th. The story is simple, bunch of girls throw a slumber party but a drill weilding madman decides to crash their little party and drill them. The gore is quite good and the music has a retro feel to it.

The killer is unique in his own way because he doesn't wear a mask (Unlike Micheal and Jason) he speaks (Even if it is a few words)

If you like this film then you should try out the sequals. Slumber Party Masacre II and III. Part 2 brings the series into a new direction with Cortney's is it real or not delioussions and the Driller Killer stands out from Russ Thron.

Slumber Party Massacre is a good film to wacth on a night with the lights turned off.
