That's a brilliant review, Gerry!!
You really capture the nuances of Curse & tell why it's a film worth seeing --
No doubt, the light and shadow in the garden, especially when we first see Irena in the "flesh", as it were, were the product of Lewton's "hands-on" role as a producer.
Also, I didn't mind the fake Hollywood snow so much -- to me, it added to the artifice/dreamworld quality of the film.  We're only ever in the snow when something creepy with Irena is going on, or if the little girl is hallucinating the Headless Horseman, or some such.  The snow itself becomes part of the "Curse" --
Just a damn fine picture.  I wish more people would see it.

We had weird storm up here in the Puget Sound area near the end of last year (I'm trying to get people to call it "the storm of aught six"), power went out, and the family stayed up all night watching the sky be all green and everything. There was a weird "boink" sound coinciding with the lightning, seemed too soon for us to be hearing the thunder. I kept wishing they would play this http://otr.net/r/xmn1/44.ram old X Minus One episode on the radio.

OT: What happened to that thread where the guy was asking for advice for making a scary movie? I had more for him, on account of my great wisdom.

Heroes of Telemark - not the most exciting movie, but some awesome snowy scenery.

RAVENOUS!  It's what's for dinner.
A nice big meaty stew is the perfect accompaniment for watching this on a blustery evening.

...then warm up with some THE BOUNTY.  Nothing's more rewarding than seeing people cavorting around in paradise...and payin' for it!

All very good choices so far.  I'd like to add "Terror in the Midnight Sun," and "The Great Silence."

That Twilight Zone/Midnight Sun episode was an inspired choice, as that one has both fire AND ice --
