By Sword. By Pick. By Axe. Bye Bye.

I know that there was recently a post about this film, or at least a discussion about it somewhere.  I did a search and couldn't find the post, so I'm starting a new one.

I read Andrew's review of this film a while back and never searched it out since it wasn't available on DVD at the time.  I just now found that it was available, so I got it from Netflix on a whim.

This is one of the biggest surprises I've had in a loooong time.  Despite Andrew's glowing review of the film, I didn't expect to enjoy it as much as I did.

Mike is one of the coolest characters of any b-movie, period.  The guy is hilarious, and his reactions to the various situations are completely spot on.  I actually lost interest in the film after I thought that Mike was dead, but luckily he was still alive and making his witty observations.

I also love the film's way of breaking the "fourth wall" and acknowledging the fact that it is a film, and that the characters think they are actually in a film.  Adds a lot of humor and character to the film.

A few things did make me nearly choke laughing (Andrew already covered some of these):

1.  Brazilian women don't like bras.

2.  Monsters can be just as easily injured by stepping on rakes, as humans can.

3.  If one is in trouble, they can just use the boom mic to get out of a situation.

4.  Cats can be weapons against enemies.

5.  If you drive a car into a lake, the car will magically change make and model.

The only problem that I had with the film is it's ability to make me feel dirty.  There is quite a bit of nudity in the film, which I'm used to when watching b-films.  But, here it just felt a bit lecherous.  This feeling was confimed after looking up the director on the IMDB and finding that his other later films are mainly nudie flicks.

But, it was nice to watch Bonnie Bowers run around in a bikini for most of the film.  Grrrr!

A bald man named Savalas visited me last night in a dream.  I think it was a Telly vision.

This movie was definitely a hidden gem.  For me, I think the nudity came across as awkward more than sexual.

In any case, the review:

Mike is one of my favorite bad movie characters.

I've been meaning to see this for ages.  I actually saw it at a video store a while back, but couldn't rent it as I was out of state.  Probably will buy it sooner or later.
