I was wondering if anyone else has caught this BBC sitcom about three IT employees in a large London business?
I obtained the first season of the show, and watched 5 of the episodes today. I have to say that I'm highly pleased with the show, and that it's quite funny. I work in IT myself and much of it is true to life, whether it be the portrayal of the employees or the boss of the company.
The show starts with Jen being hired on at Reynholm Industries, a large business in London. She lies to the head of the company about having computer knowledge and he decides to make her the head of the IT department. This doesn't sit well with Roy and Maurice AKA "Moss" (Richard Ayoade from Garth Margenhi's Darkplace). They feel like outcasts from the rest of the company, and rightfully so. Everyone in the company hates their guts, and they are stuck in the basement of the building taking the support calls which usually are fixed by having the person restart their computer.
The show delves into silly plot lines, but it all seems to work. The two things that hold the show together for me are it's realistic portrayal of support work, and Richard Ayoade. He was absolutely hilarious in Darkplace, and even better here. I actually have a coworker who is exactly like his character. It's almost frightening.
The show is being remade as we speak here in the states. Richard Ayoade is sticking on as the Moss character in this American version. I do hope they lose the laugh-track when bringing it over here.
Good show, well worth searching out.
