Has anyone mentioned Hudson Hawk? I'm at a loss to explain all the hate for this one. It's just goofy fun. I could watch it every day. I refer all the critics who panned it to Sgt. Hulka, who said 'Lighten up, Francis."

I just bought this on DVD a few weeks back and the only reaction I seem to get from people is "Why the Hell would you buy Hudson Hawk!?". I don't get the constant panning either. I think that it's monster box office failure just spooked a lot of people and it's since gained an almost legendary status as something terrible that no one should ever watch, but should instead be criticized by these people none-the-less.

Then again, I'm sure there actually are plenty of people who watched and did in fact hate it. It's not for everybody though.  TongueOut

I felt the timing was bad in Hudson Hawk, the bad guys for instance belt out their lines at 105 WPM.

THE PATRIOT with Mel Gibson is one of my favorite films of all time . . . but the critics sure hated it!!

I've watched it twice, but I was forced two since both times I watched it, it was for educational purposes and was tested on it.  I never cared for it, I'm not much a Revolutionary War buff, so I didn't get into it too much.

This are the movies that I think are underrated:

All of the Rocky Movies (I even liked Rocky 5, Rocky Balboa was awesome in every way)
The Godfather Part III (I get laughed at work because I liked this film)
Highlander II (The most recent version is the best that it can be, It's not bad but not good either)
All of the Star Wars prequels (well 1 was ok 2 and 3 were good)
Mommie Dearest (I am a guy and loved this film even though I am not gay at all)
The first 3 American Ninja Films (4 was not that good, and I am avoiding 5 at all costs)
Best of the Best 1 and Best of the Best 2
All of the Kickboxer movies
Office Space (Still a favorite of mine)
Clerks (I agreed with that film on so many level)
Date Movie (I loved it)
Heaven's Gate
The Karate Kid Part 2 and Part 3
Equalibream
The Grudge

Overrated films:

Borat (I've only say 40 minutes and I did not enjoy it)
Titanic (Bad, Bad, BAD)

Edit Note:

I had The Trial of Billy Jack as underrated and after some much though of the matter, I've changed my mind and removed it.  It was a bad film, but I enjoyed it, because it was so bad it was good.

Well maybe I should have explained that it's not bad, but not good either.  Let's leave it at that.

This thread is going to be a mile long. I just know it. Better hurry into line.

Kudos to everyone who gives A.I. a chance, it's certainly love or hate...but the people who hate it are wrong.  TongueOut

Pretend that it's not endorsed by any big names.

Also, rent "The Wicker Man". If you haven't seen the latest Nick cage 'version', don't. I am 100% sure, just from the previews, that giving it the same name is an insult to this rare gem.

It's obscurity adds to it's charm, but it also deserves a much bigger cult following for its astounding mixture of genres.

Another film that I really loved that you don't hear much about was a historical drama starring Sam Neill and Meg Ryan called RESTORATION.

I think "Medicine Man" is a VERY underrated movie, it's one of our frequent re-watchers. The Jackyl is another, we seem to watch whatever portion of it is remaining when we see it is on, but never really looked for it. Even though it made loads of money, I rarely hear someone talk about "The Matrix Revolution" without complaining about it. I think it's one of the best modern movies made.
"Hollywood Kniights" is one movie that it seems only 1 in 1000 people have seen, but I think it's hilarious. Another is "Wonderland", good movie, kinda sad overall. "The Cannonball Run" is another that I think is real good, , but the sequil was a major letdown.

You didn't mention the lead of RESTORATION, Robert Downey, Jr., but you certainly are right to point out this neglected film because it's very good.

Actually kind of an old thread started by me 3 weeks ago, there's much to choose from on this site to discuss.   Smile  Thumbup

You're right to suggest THE WICKER MAN which has its devotees, but it is definitely overlooked.

OOoh, I liked that one!  I really like Robert Downey Junior and I'll watch anything he's in, and I thought this was one of his better performances.

As I've said here before, I liked Ghosts of Mars, thought I'm not completely sure why.  Another underrated Carpenter flick is Prince of Darkness, I'll watch that one whenever it's on.

In no way can I help you with that first statement, as I tried to like Ghosts of Mars and still couldn't. As for Prince of Darkness, you're absolutely right and it is entirely underrated. The few times I actually come to John Carpenter's defense (such as the topic of "Who sucks more: John Carpenter or Wes Craven?"), I always note Price of DarknessThumbup

SCARS of DRACULA with Christopher Lee allways seems to get a badshake, and I don't seem to understand why. Sure,it's bloody, sadistic, and violent, but so what? It gave Lee more screen time than most o the previous Hammer series Dracula films put together! Also FRANKENSTEIN and the MONSTER from HELL...many call it the worst in that series,no classic, but lot's of fun.

MANIAC COP 2 was a great action film as well, yet it is barley ever given a footnote anywhere...very cool and nonstop action. The scene in the convience store is wild!!!! As is the bus chase! Great performances all around as well!

Which makes it all the sadder to know that the first and third movies have DVD releases but not the second! Booooourns.
