Hmm.. so where do I begin with this one?

Immortal is a sci-fi/fantasy film set in the future in a dystopian New York City.  A giant floating pyramid has appeared and everyone buzzing about what it could mean.  Inside, Horus, the Egyptian god, he's got one week left to live.

Meanwhile, down in earth, it's definitely a brave new world as we see normal people living side by side with various genetically altered creatures and assorted hybrids.  A detective is on the case of serial killer who's somehow causing his victims to explode.  Meanwhile a mysterious chick with blue hair and alabaster skin finds herself deep in the city, with no memory of where she comes from or how she got there.

We soon find out that Horus is looking for a woman to create a child with, and is going around possessing male bodies with not so successful results.  When accident at a hovering cyro-freeze prison sends several prisoners tumbling down to earth, Horus revives one of them (a revolutionary imprisoned nearly sixty years ago) and "convinces" him to let Horus "borrow" his body.

Confused?

Well, keep in mind I'm leaving out some details...

The film uses a combination of live action and CGI, similar to films like Sky Captain and the World of Tomorrow (in fact, fans argue of which film was released first.)  Like a lot of CGI heavy films of late, I can some up my review like this, "Pretty pictures, little plot."  While there is a plot here, it often doesn't seem to make a hell of a lot of sense and leaves way too many questions unanswered.

Still, it's a very visually compelling world, and, as I said, if you're looking for something different, it might be worth checking out.

Plus you get to see a female with blue nipples.  How many movies can you say that about?

I saw that quite a while ago and enjoyed it.  Very different, and I actually thought the plot was interesting.  Can't remember if it went anywhere though  TeddyR

I watched that last summer and posted a review on this site.  I'd just about forgotten everything BUT the blue nipples.

I bought this one based on the idea that it was a sci-fi film with Horus in it, which seemed really cool.  I thought the idea of eugenics in it was quite interesting, as was the use of both real and digital characters, which seemed not only fairly seamless but within context [you accepted the CGI people based on the plot point about genetic manipulation much easier than if you had just some random characters in there]

I also thought it was fairly interesting just in general.  But my only criticism which I also have read elsewhere: isn't the film just basically a subtext about legitimate rape?  Anyways, it's stretching it slightly, but still...

Worth a looksee for the starting scene alone.    Thumbup
