Well i figured id ask you all, as google wasnt exactly useful... I find the rather direct rip-offs of star wars from the late seventies early eighties tremendously amusing for some reason, and was wondering if there were others out there like these:

Turkish Star Wars
Starcrash
The tramps in the planet wars
Message from space

Thanks,
-Oleg

Hey Oleg, welcome to the board. Though it's more of an "in spirit" rip-off of Star Wars than anything direct, I suggest tracking down Space Odyssey, aka Star Odyssey. It's an Italian sci-fi flick that you could probably find with relative ease at a 99 cent store or in one of those massive "50 movies for $10" sci-fi DVD packs.

I think War in Space is along the same lines.

I'm actively trying to track these two down:

Spacehunter
Metalstorm

I remember my dad renting them for me back when I was a kid and I loved them both.  Haven't seen them since.

Anybody know where there's any footage of Metalstorm, I can't see any on youtube, it's just it looks like the kind of film I would have seen when I was a kid but I'm not sure if I did.

War of the Planets and War of the Robots are two enjoyable ones, if not previously mentioned under a different title. And who can forget Starcrash?!

I love spacehunter, a really annoying 15 yr old molly ringwald, ernie hudson, michael ironside, giant cars made out of junk, gratuitous random encounters with mutants, and its in 3d! (though sadly my vhs copy is not) what more could a man want?

I own  the metalstorm : the destruction of jared syn (where jared syn is not destroyed), battle beyond the stars, and i saw the last starfighter in the theather when i was wee, i remember loving it then. I should find a copy.

I always thought war in space was just a different name for message in space , but now looking at imdb they are not, thanks all!

I think METALSTORM: THE DESTRUCTION OF JARED SYN will disappoint after all of these years.  I saw it in the drive-in (it was in 3d, wasn't it?) and remember it as inciting peals of laughter ... In any case, used VHS copies can be found easily thru Amazon, and tho' I think of Amazon as the "enemy of the people" I use them every week to buy movies and CDs... TeddyR hope the link works:

Oh god no! Do not misslead this nieve young lad! STAR ODYSSEY is the path to the DARK SIDE!!! I own it! It has brought nothing but hatred and unneeded sleep!

(Besides, didnt this come out a few years BEFORE star wars?)
