A low front moved through this afternoon/evening taking a lot of the excessive humidity with it. There's supposed to be dryer air behind though the temps will still be in the low 90's for most of VA.

It's been so sticky throughout all of this week.  I cool my one level 2 bedroom house with a 12800 BTU Whirlpool window unit  in addition to ceiling fans in each bedrooms, and my AC has been running nonstop during the days this whole week.

Went to our weekly potluck here in NJ and it was too cool for most people!  Rain came thru this afternoon, and a drop in temp, but it hadn't been very hot for 36 hours, and yesterday was lovely.  Today was nippy for some, but I run hot and I loved it!   Smile

We got a small shower yesterday evening just enough to push the humidity up to about 99.99% the temp today was cooler or 98 degrees today but they said it's going to be over 100 for the next 7 days with lows in the 80's groovy ... I sick of working the night shift seeing how I work for myself, just to hot in the day to get anything done.

Pretoria (the powers that be are going to rename it "Tshwane" very soon  Hatred) is a nice city but it is in the stupidest place ever: built in a major dent in the earth so that in summer, all the cool air rushes overhead. In winter, you freeze, in summer, you sweat.

It's currently winter here and our winter has been the coldest on record, it even snowed in Johannesburg which is about thirty miles away from us.

In summer however, you get a miracle of nature: just before the sun sets, you usually get a cloud burst of rain: the smell of the dry and then wet earth is magic. If you get to smell it over the exhaust fumes, the dog poo and all that, it's great.  Buggedout

In Arkansas we were getting rain and below normal temps ( around 90F) for all of July. Usually around mid-July the grass starts turning dry and brown.  Now that it's August we are having record breaking high temps (107 today and tomorrow is forecast for 108). This weekend it may cool down to 95 by Sunday.

It's actually been colder than usual for this time of year in Newfoundland. We rarely get above the low 20s above Celsius. Most years we seem to be closer to 30 August and September.

We're around 105-106 F today, with a heat index 5 degrees higher.  Typical, actually, for North Texas in August.  Good day to sit in front of my PC and read about bad movies . . .

and I rented a Brain Damage Film to watch tonight! TeddyR

It was 101 yesterday and 100 so far today, the 5 day forecast has it over a 100 each day until Sat. The heat is about to kill me and it's putting me to far behind in work. But it's nothing new here, it's normal here to for this time of the year. It's just the extreme lack of rain that is hurting us here.

Here in Iowa, we've been pretty lucky.
The temps have never gone above 90 F for most of the summer and hopefully they'll stay that way.
(knock on wood)

When the temperature goes above 95-100, I just stay inside in the air conditioning.   Smile

Just got back from spending last week at Virginia Beach.  Hot as hades on the beach too.  IIRC, last Thursday the heat index was 104 right on the beach.  Too hot to even be lying on the sand.  Looks like there had been some rain in Toledo while I was away, the lawn needed mowing and my dogwood tree has recovered a bit, though one rhodedendron is in bad shape (I think it's the one all the dogs use to send their pee-mail to each other.)

The humidity has dropped a bit here in Roanoke, VA but the heat is still here, though it's more in the lower 90's instead of the upper 90's like last week.  I think it should be in the mid to upper 80's by this weekend.

104 today and we are currently 18" of rain below normal, Texas is getting all of our rain. It's been over 100 9 out of the last 10 days and the day that wasn't 100 was 99. What the difference? It's so dry here we have tree dying and ponds drying up. The smell of dead fish baking in the heat is quite aromatic.
