Beef jerky (known in South Africa as biltong) is also a local delicacy.
It comes in several types, namely
Biltong chips (hard pieces of jerky that seem to melt in your mouth)
Biltong powder (delicious on bread or toast)
Biltong pieces (this is best eaten with a sharp knife and not pre-cut)
You also get ostrich biltong, monkey biltong, donkey biltong and crocodile biltong.
Also roadkill biltong, but I have never had the guts to try that.
The best however is what we here call "droe wors" (dry sausage).
I know that sounds awfully gross. but don't gag: it is quite the most delicious snack ever, with spices added to the dried sausage it is heaven.
One drawback to eating this: a major thirst!
