This is an offshoot of the Non-Hot Actress thread (which I suppose came out of the Hottest Actress thread) Anyway, which actresses catch your eye, even though they don't fit what would normally be considered hot?

A couple of people mentioned Sandra Oh in the other thread. To me, she looks more odd than attractive, but she's a perfect example. In purely subjective terms, which potentially non-hot actresses look hot to you?

Off the top of my head, I'd say America Ferrera. Of course, she's actually quite pretty. But I mean America Ferrera as Ugly Betty, with the glasses and the braces and the unfashionable clothes. Something strangely compelling there. I imagine oddly attractive is exactly the look the makers of the show were trying to create.

What are some other examples?

Violet and Daisy Hilton were considered quite the babes in their day:

Here's another one. Jennifer Grey.

Back when I first saw Ferris Bueller's Day Off, I thought she was hot. Interestingly enough, I think she became less so after getting her nose fixed. And her less-distinctive look cost her a lot, career-wise.

Just goes to show that a good face is more than its parts. It's the way everything fits together. I imagine that's why it's often hard to put your finger on what makes an oddly attractive woman attractive. It's something the plastic surgery crowd sometimes forget - putting the best features of several pretty faces on the same face is not necessarily going to look good. And in Grey's case, changing one significant feature can be enough to throw the whole combination off.

Sandra Oh, since she kinda led to this topic.

Christina Ricci, I like her, but some people hate her looks for the high forehead, and the shape of her head. Me, I like her, but more so back before she lost some weight.

Maggie Gyllenhall (too lazy to look up the correct spelling right now), not a glamorous beauty in the typical Hollywood mode, but she has that certain something, maybe it's that smile, which looks friendly and mischievous at the same time. Plus she ain't shy, check out Secretary and Sherrybaby.

Lili Taylor (How the hell do you do a PROPER link on an MB? I mean, like one where you click the name "Lili Taylor" to go to the gallery?) Kind of an extreme example, I wouldn't be that surprised if a substantial number of people find her repugnant. But probably most guys dig her. I think big noses and a kind of snuggly quality are going to be a recurring theme in this topic.

Debra Messing and Maddchen Amick have got the schnozz, but they're closer to just regular hot skinny chick types.

I guess Bjork is *technically* an actress.

Speaking of Christina Ricci, you could do a whole thread of hot chicks who kind of look like aliens, like Nichole Kidman and the redhead from Desperate Houswives.

Juliette Lewis , seriously, no joke, looks retarded. Yet... the strange feelings that come upon me as I look upon her... they are not what one usually feels toward a retarded women...

I'll probably come back with a bunch more later, unnaccountably attractive weird looking women are kind of my type. If I ever got jaded enough to actually narrow my scope down at all, that is.

That reminds me. Kathy Najimy deserves a mention here.

And I agree with Jorja Fox. Buck teeth, freckles, thin lips - kind of an odd face all around, but she's got a quality I can't quite put my finger on.

Maybe it's not odd, but I've always had a huge thing for Katherine Isabelle (Ginger Snaps, Earth Sea, Freddy vs. Jason).

Haylie Duff.  I don't know if others think she's nice, but I like her.

Beverly Mitchell.  Others don't really like her.

Allison Mack.  On Smallville, everyone always talks about Kristin Kreuk.  I find Allison more attractive.

I second the mentions of Jorja Fox, Kathy Najimy, and Katherine Isabelle.

My vote would be for Tina Fey:

She's not a normal beauty but I think she is absolutely gorgeous.  I think it's the glasses and the sort of uneasy smile that I like so much.  Also, she's a huge nerd in real life, so that's a serious bonus. Smile

I agree with many here. My oddest attraction, however, was to Shelley Duvall in Popeye. I don't find her attractive in any other role, but I think Olive Oyl was simply the role she was born to play (and how sad is that?).

Jorja Fox,Beverly Mitchell,Juliette Lewis(yes, she looks a little retarded) i´m with all of those...
America Ferrera..i like her in Real women have curves,Before Ugly Betty, she is chubby but attractive.
Cristina Ricci is attractive..like Thora Birch, big forehead, weird and indiferent look? very hot. Twirling
About Haylie Duff ..is the nose...and also compared to Hillary..she is instantly like the ugly sister hehe. But she´s ok

so..to name some of my own, that i can think...i´ll say Rachel Miner(mainly influenced by Bully i guess).. but she has like a strange look, because of the eyebrows position.Should make a Sexy witch character.

also..Uma Thurman..because i personally don´t find her really a beauty...but she has something, To me she could be like the ugly sister of Cloe Sevigny  TeddyR

Shadow,

Yeah, I second Sarah Silverman.  I have a serious thing for her.  She's smokin' hot!
