Have you ever gotton in a fist fight with someone? I mean a drag out street fight? No kid stuff.  Iv'e gottin into a few, I'm sorry to say...and not always coming out on top. Here's one  I'll relate...

Back in the 80's,me and my brother Glenn were walkining down the street in Mastic-Shirley,Long Island. Some people that Glenn owed money to jumped us. About 5 people. Some black guy came at me with a bat- I had a 5 inch pocket knife-I yelled at him-"What?! You need a bat against me?" And I threw my knife. He said-"No.!" Are You crazy? We are gonna KILL you!" and he dropped his bat. But then this young long hair kid ran up to me and acted like he knew Kung Fu or  something  tried to drop kick me. I grabbed his leg and he fell. Then I bite his calf.
To make a very long story short...I ended up with a broken nose, and that guy ended up with a tore up face ( I bite his face).

Now, at age 45, I am amazed I am still alive. When I lived in NYC,I was very much a punk rock drunk...and very much an idiot.

Yes.  The thing I eventually learned about fights is that, no matter if you win or lose it, you are still sore and bloody in the end.  Fighting with another grown man means you are going to take some hits.  I have a scar or two, some minor chips on teeth, you name it.  All the product of a much younger, much more angry me.

It would be unusual for me to get into a fight now.  I just don't see the point in it unless that is the only solution.  Younger males might find it different.  I think we naturally do resolve some things that way, at that age.

You're a biter?  I hate those.  Had somebody bite the hell out of my ear one time.  Won the fight (which I didn't ask for), but ended up with a masticated ear.

I had to bite. I am 5'2". He was much bigger. I did not want to . I felt trapped.  It 's something I've been thinking about latley...my past. I don't know why. Maybe I'm just trying to see if I'm not so odd if others have experianced the same garbage that I have, I  might not feel so alone. I'm just weird,I guess.

I've only been in a few small tussles and my advice is to always try and get behind the guy, slap a headlock on him and either let him tire himself out, or choke him out till he's unconscious... just make sure you don't accidentally strangle the guy to death... Unless you're looking to be one of those "I'm so macho that my b.o. scares off rapid bears" Fight Club types of guys who wants a few scars to brag about, I figure an old fashioned headlock is the best way to put a stop to it if you can't avoid it in the first place. Now, if the guy happens to have a few friends with him who don't like to fight fair, my only bit of advice was something I took from Attack the Gas Station: single out one guy and just beat the living sh!t out of him. Ignore everyone else trying to take you off of him, just go balls out crazy and keep beating on that one guy. Eventually the hope is that the other guys will see that you're obviously psychotic and they'll be too busy running away to realize that there's five of them and only one of you. Crazy beats bigger every time.  Cheers

The only real fight I ever got into I can't remember too well because I was so damn drunk.  We used to camp out at an old lignite mine not to far from where I live when I was a teenager.  It was a strip mine, basically a big deep hole in the ground filled with water. People were always ditching stuff in there (stolen cars and such).

Anyway, it was the night  David " Bonehead" Williams said watch this and sucked down a pint of peach brandy and passed out in the fire.  Later that night some guys who were quite a bit more sober than us showed up and tried to steal our beer.  My friend Robert and I had gone down the trail to take a leak and on the way back to the fire  (the rest is relayed as it was to me since I don't remember this part) and this big dude was blocking the path. I said something to the effect "I'll move him" and proceeded to kick him in the chest, he fell back and grabbed a couple of pine saplings that stopped his fall, he sprang back up and belted me one knocking me back headfirst into the trunk of tree.

Evidently I started raising so much hell that these guys took off.  I can then vaguely remember b***hing about those rotten guys beating up on a poor drunk while my friends tried to stop my head from bleeding.  The next morning was one of those "Holy s**t, I'm still alive and wish I wasn't !" mornings.

When I look back at the stupid stuff I did when I was young, there are two things I thank.  God and the Statute of Limitations!

While in the Navy I witnessed quite a few brawls.  One thing about a real fight, they're not nearly as dignified as the ones in the movies.  I never saw any swinging fists, mainly just two guys clawing, gouging, biting, and occasionally landing a lick on each other.

I did see a Marine get konked on the head with a beer bottle.  It was actually kind of surreal, the bottle hit him (hey, they don't break the way they do in movies)  from behind, his eyes crossed, and then he stood there for  a few seconds before hitting the floor.

I got into a really nasty fight at senior week in 1993 at Myrtle Beach.

My friends and myself were just walking along and somebody mistook me for someone else and just ran up to me and started beating on me.  My jaw has popped ever since that one.  The guy who jumped me ended up getting his butt kicked but I was pretty sore for a couple of days from that one.

I've never really gotten into any fights, but maybe this one might fit in:

Back in my ninth-grade year of high school one morning (1999) I was sitting in Technology Discovery class, trying to concentrate on the worksheet in front of me. This little wormy kid sits down in the empty desk in front of me and jumps at me, trying to disturb me. I paid him no attention, but after five minutes or so of this happening it was getting annoying. He jumped at me again and I punched him square in the face, entirely by reflex. He slinked back to his original desk whimpering about a broken nose or something. Teacher didn't say a thing to me, and the kid didn't mess with me from that day forward.

All the fights I ever got in involved me landing one good shot on the other guy and them avoiding me for the rest of the school year.

In 1981 (my second year of high school in Zimbabwe) I was always getting bullied by the older boys due to my slightly nerdish, bookish image. I was proud of being nerdish and bookish back then and I still am.

To cut a long story short, I was pushed, punched and buggered around to a point where I literally could not take it anymore, unusual for me. After one more punch, I turned on my tormentors, threw a punch at the first person I saw. I saw white, not red, I was that angry. I saw the person fall heavily and kicked out at him, knocking him out.  Hatred

It was only when the other bullies backed away from me and my vision cleared slightly that I saw who I had laid out: the #1 school bully. His friends revived him and took him away. I was a little scared but I felt good, something like Dustin Hoffman in Straw Dogs. Only later that day I learnt from my parents that the bully had been taken to hospital and he remained there for nearly a month: I had injured him that badly.  Buggedout

Weird conclusion: this bully and I later became good friends! He always talked me up to others telling them to walk nice around me because I was the only person who had ever knocked him on his ass.  Smile

Something else strange: my bullying by others stopped dead after that: even the seniors in the school did not order me around anymore and I told the juniors coming into school in my senior year that if they were bullied, they would only have to tell me and I would sort it.

I used to be a bouncer at a strip club that was owned by a local biker gang. Also I had to live with the out of town strippers in the housing provided by the club. For about 7 months, fistfights were an everyday occurrence for me. The good part is that while I was sober, they were drunk out of their skulls which meant I got away with little more than a few bruises and the occasional bite mark. I quit when someone got shot on the front step. The worse ever fight I got into there was with a guy with down syndrome. He was flipping out and I didn't want to hurt him, so while I was dragging him out I earned a broken nose, cracked rib and about 15 stitches from bites on the arms and stomach.

I've actually never been in a fight in my adult life, but in my hard-drinking days I learned the art of almost getting into bar fights.  I would pick a target, usually some guy who was legitimately being a jerk, a start antagonizing him and escalating the situation.  Usually, he would find an excuse to back down when I would keep pushing it and pushing it.  Often his friends would come over and grab him and steer him away.

Once, when I was royally hammered on gimlets and Miller High Life,  I did sucker punch a guy in the face who was just passing by because I decided I didn't like his face.  He came after me and we were both held back by our friends, but I struggled free and grabbed a kitchen knife that was lying around.  A bunch of my friends tackled me and held me on the ground while his friends hurried him away.  I hate to think what trouble I might have gotten into if they hadn't.  Thankfully, that experience made me change my drinking habits.

Also I had to live with the out of town strippers in the housing provided by the club.

You make that sound like a bad thing!  I always offer out of town strippers the opportunity to live in housing provided by me, but they never take me up on it.

I have always said that I'm a lover, not a fighter.   Wink

I don't believe I've been in a fight since high school or so.  I'm a person who is very easy to p**s off but it takes me a while before I get to the point of getting in a fight.  I'll let most things slide but if someone keeps on me, then I will break at some point.

Trevor's account sounds very much like me.  I'm not a graceful fighter by any means.  When I get to the point of throwing a punch, I just kinda "lose it".  I just start punching wildly, but not softly.  When I fight, I plan to end the fight quickly and by any means necessary.  If I punch you, it's going to be with every bit of force that I can summon.

Like I said though, I haven't fought in years.  I think my size plays a big part of that now.  In school, I was much thinner than I am now.  I'm 6'1 and range from about 270-280lb.  Needless to say, I have a certain presence.  LOL

My wife and I went to a local nightclub a few weeks back, and she was on the dance floor, dancing with some of her female friends.  I was sitting at a table near the floor, drinking a beer, taking a break.  Another guy, much smaller than me, started dancing on my wife.  Not dancing with her, but dancing on her.  I'm not a jealous guy so I didn't say much of anything.  My wife looked over at me as if to say: "Get this guy off of me, please?".  I put the beer down, stood up and looked in her direction.  She turned around to the guy and said: "That's my husband.".

The guy looks over at me, stares for a moment and looks scared.  As I said, I didn't have a problem with the guy and was in no mood to fight.  He just mouthed the words, "I'm Sorry", and disappeared.  Didn't see the guy for the rest of the night.

Apparently, being a large guy means you can scare off people smaller than you, and you can only buy clothes at big and tall stores.   Smile

The only "fight" I was ever in was about 20 years ago.  My sister and I were at a party out in somebodies backyard.  There was this biker lookin' dude, drunk as hell and amazingly foul mouthed.  He was determined to get it on with my sister.  She walked over to me and told me we were leaving.  Anyhow, drunken foul-mouthed biker dude gets it in his head that I'm her boyfriend and he's going to kick my ass.  He starts taking off his jacket and all this stuff, he hands his drink to somebody, spills most of it, looks back at me.  He was so wasted I don't think his eyes had even re-focused yet but I just booted him in the nuts and he went down like a sack of potatoes.  There were a few people gathered around to watch the big fight, so we got the heck out of there before any of his friends could continue it.  But mostly everybody was just laughing - I remember one guy saying "Hey, that's a rules violation, judges, deduct one point!".

You always end up wrestling around, throwing close punches, elbows, and knees.  A guillotine headlock works really well, like you mentioned, as can getting hold of a wrist or smaller joint (finger) and twisting it the wrong way.

If ever faced with more than one attacker, you always try to do the most damage to one of them.  Life isn't like a kung fu flick, where they come at you one at a time and you take each out as they do.

Ive never been in an all out brawl outside of my Nintendo, but I've had a few close calls.

The first that I can remember was a classic schoolyard sinerio: Kids playing 4-square, bigger kids move in uninvited, all hell breaks loose, teacher breaks it up.

The second was in hight school. There was this kid that sat right by me in a lot of classes and would always talk dirty to me and call me gay, which in small doses does'nt really phase me, but when it goes on all year, It gets a little annoying. One day we fought in the middle of history class, but the teacher broke it up before anyone landed any punches or locked any strangleholds. As the teacher lead us out of the room, I heard someone whisper, "psyco."

Later that year, there was these older kids that I didn't know that kinda all crowded around me while I was at a drinking fountain, and then they started throwing me against lockers an' stuff. They were all shorter than me, but there was like, 5 of them or something.

The latest one that I can remember was at a punk/ska show and there was this drunk skinhead that kept pulling my hair and shouting "DEATH TO LONGHAIRS!!!", but I was in too good of a mood to fight him, so I just smiled and kept dancing around.

So, no, Ive never really been in a serious fight, but then again, I don't think I ever really want to be in one. I like messing around with my friends, hell, I'd even get into a fist fight with them if I knew we were just doing it for fun, but outside of that, I guess fighting seems a little too hateful.

Know whats funny, I used to DJ at a strip club and sometimes I was the only guy there. However, I noticed that when there were bouncers there, the bigger they were the more cr*p they got from they rowdy patrons.  Some guys always feel a need to prove themselves against bouncers/security and really its kind of pathetic.

As for other fights, I've had a few tussles here and there nothing too major.  I try to avoid fighting in general.  Jails are filled with people who have thrown one too many punches and I'd rather not be one of them.
