ZOMBIES OF MORA TAU (1957) - This little zombie film is an odd one. There are sunken diamonds off the coast of Africa and treasure hunters are deep sea diving to find it. Little do they know that zombies walk these waters protecting the treasure. The best part of this film is Allison Hayes who becomes a zombie and attacks the treasure hunters with a knife killing one of them. Also at the beginning of the film we are introduced to the old white lady of the region who is meant to look scarier than the zombies. This played on TCM today and like REVENGE OF THE ZOMBIES (1943) these characters don't know what zombies are. They would say something to the effect "She's fine. Didn't you see her walking around" then the old lady would say something like "No she's dead". I can see how this film may have influenced a number of Euro-Zombie flicks.
Things I learned about these zombies are:
1.) Zombies like diamonds, not brains.
2.) Zombies are handy with a knife.
3.) Zombies don't like flaming torches.
