I'm not really sure what to think of that, I live in a world where Terminator 3 didn't really happen. The robots were cool, sure, but it was a big screw-you to everything that happened in Terminator 2. "What, all the files and information about SkyNet and the chip were destroyed? No they weren't!*fart noise*" One among them has a secret, ooo, creepy. Could it be a disguised Terminator? No, surely not! I don't see how Arnold would fit into another one of these and if SkyNet is already active in the current time frame why would it bother to send a Terminator back? It no longer had to hide its robotic servants since all the HKs and T-1s are roaming around and since SkyNet was just "born", there's no cyborg technology so what will this secret be?

It's dumb-dumb time!: Terminator 2 has at least one clip that I remember that depicts the building housing SkyNet, yet according to Terminator 3 SkyNet is "software in cyberspace". What will become of that and how can John 's forces win against the world wide web? Don't call the movie Terminator Salvation: The Future Begins. That's too big and the future is technically always beginning. Call it Conner vs The Machines. I think that would sell more tickets. Or maybe it's Robert Patrick's turn to say "Come with me if you want to live." Yeah, I'd love to hear them explain it.

Early script reviews on this one say one thing - It Could Be Good.

Christian Bale has officially signed on as John Connor, so I'm not sure why IMDB still lists that as rumored.  Supposedly, John Conner will not be the focus of this film but a member of his army will be.  Sounds good to me.  Apparently the script calls for all sorts of action and effects so this film will have a huge budget and contain much more than what we've seen in previous Terminator films.  I love the idea of it taking place during the war, and I like the idea of following a character who is in Connor's army.  I have high hopes for this one.

All I really care about is the robots, I just don't want them to mess it up I respect Christian Bale as an actor and a person, thought, so we'll see how the movie does by following a non-Conner character.

If a person was to think about it, when the chip, the arm and Arnie were destroyed, that should have changed the future so there would be no Skynet.  Oh well, T3 was a piece of work, I liked the cyborgs but that was about it.

Has anyone scene the advertisements for the Sara Conner Chronicles???

I don't know about this new movie; my cynical nature says it will suck, but not as badly as the new TV series will.  Also, I seem to recall hearing (probably here) that this is only the first of three post-Judgement Day Terminator films planned, none of which are written/produced/directed by James Cameron.

From what I can understand of the series, every time someone is sent to the past, the future is changed.  So, prior to the events of T2, the neural net chips being designed by Miles Dyson were used in the terminators and SkyNet.  After those events, as per the exposition in T3, since Judgement Day was inevitable SkyNet came into being as a distributed process similar to BOINC.  How this affected the internals of the terminators was not AFAICR explained.

It must also be remembered that if the original terminator had not come back in time and been mostly destroyed, Dyson never would have gotten his hands on the arm & chip and would never have developed them.  Time travel can make for some serious headaches.

That's all well and good but why still call the computer SkyNet? If it's built by people other than Cyberdyne they should logically call it something other than what, to them, would be the brainchild of a scientist who went nuts, destroyed his work, and then got killed by the cops. Only someone intent on political suicide would insist on calling their supercomputer, developed independently of both Cyberdye and Miles Dyson, SkyNet.

And even if Cyberdyne did build the computer we see in Terminator 3 for the army, why would they themselves call it SkyNet and thus remind themselves of such a dark chapter in their company's history?

Well, in the original timeline Dyson and Cyberdyne designed SkyNet without the advent of the salvaged chip and arm from the first Terminator. All said items did was make it so that the scientists would begin work on what would ultimately become SkyNet sooner than they would have otherwise.

I think Hollywood has gotten to the point where anytime we hear about them making a sequel to a beloved franchise, it's "Oh dear God no!!!".

I heard the rumors back when they made T3, but Arnold ended up in that.  As for this one, honestly, I'd prefer the Rock as opposed to say, Vin Diesel.  Rock's a decent actor, just picks the worst movies to be in a lot of times.

The Terminator movies are the new Planet of the Apes. It doesn't matter how many temporal paradoxes there are. Each movie feasibly can exist in its own reality. It just depends how you fudge the timelines.

Just out of nutty curiosity has anyone read the three T2 books written (I believe) by Steve Perry?  They were written sometime before T3 was even thought of, so it follows it's own storyline, basically starting with Sarah and John hiding out in South America (recall in part two that Sarah meet a lot of Mexican/South American mercenaries and such when she was trying to learn all should could about military weapons and things.) 

Anyway, the book series had some good ideas, for one, we actually get MEET the guy who the Terminator "Human" design is based on, he's an Austrian scientist who just also happens to be former military guy and likes to pump iron a lot.  I think it'd be cool if they could do this with the next Terminator movie, but, giving the age (and probably, lack of interest) of Arnold I doubt it'd be possible.

I think there's several other Terminator books out there (not counting the various comic books) but I haven't had a chance to read any.
